I hear you...just started bf 2 days ago bc of baby being in the nicu, but i was pumping every 3 hours from her birth religiously. She's 8 days old. My nipples are so raw, part of that is bc I wasn't working with the correct lactation consultants/nurses.

She had a new nurse in the nicu last night and she helped me fix her latch problem. The 2nd part is just my nipples getting used to it. She still has issues with her bottom lip rolling up which makes it more painful. I've been using a nipple shield for her feedings this evening and it has definitely helped. Trying to be patient, as we're both new at this, but I'm a perfectionist so it's very frustrating not being able to get it right away. Good luck to you!

It does get better. Give it 2-3 weeks. Use nipple cream, breast pads. If it gets really bad, you can try a nipple shield.

But your nipples will heal and toughen up. Give it time

I was bleeding horrible with my first the doctor had to get a prescription cream.

It does get batter mama it was very painful in the beginning for me my baby is only 9days old and I pushed thru and it was worth it now its not as painful nipples are healed and it hurts less every day chin up mama it will get better :)

Once your baby is latching correctly each time, your nipples will heal and it will get much better. I'd meet with a lactation consultant as many times as it takes. Breastfeeding is hard and so painful in the beginning. I've been told that the nipples get used to the beating they take within a month. That's a long time to wait but it will get better!

I almost gave up like 10 different times. Cried every single time I nursed and dreaded it. She will be 3 weeks tomorrow and it's fiiiinally starting to feel "natural". It's so hard, and by far the hardest part for me too; but it truly does get better. Air them out after you nurse for as long as you can. Nurse frequently if you can. Pump to give yourself a break once in a while. Everyone said it got better and I didn't believe them, but it's so true haha. Hoping you get some relief soon!! ?

It does get way better and easier! You just have to give it a few weeks. Having the proper latch makes a huge difference!

My first 2 times nursing, i went through a period of painful nursing....i dreaded nursing my nipples were so cracked and sore. After about a week, it went away.

This time though, I'm latching him on differently than I did with my other 2 and my nipples are totally fine and i havent had any pain outside of some discomfort. I've also been using nip dip (a nipple soothing balm) before there were ever any cracking issues.

First 2 times, (as in first 2 babies) I'd push my breast skin forward, which would cause my areolas to wrinkle up, in an effort to get as much areola in their mouth as I could.

Now, i just press down on my breast so it has a more narrow shape and may even pull back slightly, causing my nipple to bulge forward just a bit, and i do this motion where my nipple is pointed more up so that enough of the bottom areola is in his mouth, and once it is against his bottom lip, i point my nipple a bit down more, so that the top gets in there too, before he closes his mouth.

I hope that made sense.
