And this is why I love Marky Wahlberg.

That's amazing of him. At the same time no celebrity gets paid the same. It's all based on your popularity. Mark is a way hotter item than Michelle who is basically a D list celebrity. The. Fact that he is acknowledging how ridiculous it all is speaks volumes and more celebs should speak out on it. But you know greed and stuff most would never settle with making the same as someone who isn't a huge name.

I hope I worded this ok. I'm tired lol. Hopefully you guys get what I'm trying to say.

I think this goes back to the whole “don’t talk about your pay with coworkers” thing. If they’d talked, both of them could have made an informed decision.

I feel like it’s a publicity stunt. Actors are like restaurants... they get paid based on how much money they bring in- how famous and attractive they are. You don’t pay $30 for a burger at McDonald’s but you do at an upscale restaurant.

I think that this wasn’t the best representation of the gender pay gap. Michelle Williams had reshoots in her original contract at that agreed upon rate, mark wahlberg didn’t. His agent was able to negotiate a rate after they realized he would have to reshoot every scene that originally had Kevin spacey in it. So, on many levels, it was a lucky break on Wahlberg’s part. Perhaps Michelle Williams agent will add a new play to her/his book on contract negotiations in the future.

And while I agree it’s a publicity stunt, I think the outcome is positive and if the money can be used to make a difference, he can have the publicity.

Slightly off topic but I was listening to a podcast the other day and th speaker was explaining that studies show almost none/none pay gap between genders specifically. The pay gap however, IS fairly extreme when you compare a working mother vs working father. It was quite interesting and worth looking into if you’re interested. Don’t remember which one it was exactly BUT I’m sure google could lead.

@bmr- that was a really phenomenal article and I thought it was very well written. Coming from a woman in a “man’s” field, I think that was very well said and made you think twice in regards to the wage gap
