This made me cry. I suffer from bipolar depression. I now know when I'm beginning to spiral downward. I have learned when I need to stop and ask for help. Years ago I did not know how severe my depression was. I had a rough time and decided I had enough and I attempted to end my life. I almost succeeded. I don't remember much except a Dr I woke up to telling me how serious it was. He explained most people it's just a cry for help but with the level of pills in my blood I was still at risk of a heart attack days after my "episode." He was very concerned about my mental health at that point. I was told had my SO not called the ambulance to break down my door I would have slipped into a coma and my organs would have began to fail. I would not have been here today. Everyday after that has been a gift. Sometimes I still slip into these dark feelings but I'm able to stop and ask for help now. Before no one knew. Everyone said I seemed so "normal." It never crossed anyones mind that I was so lost at the time. I will probably regret this reply cause its r&r and it never forgets.
@unagie thank you. I never thought of it as helping others. It's something I don't really open up about to much yet. It was my darkest time. And I am grateful for everyday after that.
Thank you, Brenda, for being open. I was diagnosed with depression 15 years ago and while it ebbs and flows in it's intensity, it impacts my life on a daily basis. It's never easy talking about something that so many people view as weakness, but I have found that those of us who struggle and stand up daily and fight to not succumb are actually some of the strongest people.
I can’t stop watching this!! Notice how it’s all walks of life who hug this guy too!!! Younger people, kids, adults, black, white, Asian, women and men. This is something that effects every walk of life!!!
I was diagnosed with depression and mild bipolar disorder at 14. I use to self harm and when my parents found out they took me to the doctor the next day and I was in therapy. Therapy really.helped. after having my son i had ppd really bad, I would just sit on the floor and cry. I didn't want to live anymore, so I took myself to the doctor and got help, medication doesn't work well for me because it's so hard to remember to take it, especially when your feeling better. But over the years I've gotten better and I've gotten to the point with therapy and just talking about it that I have lesrned.how.to cope without medication. I was off medication for a year till I got pregnant this time around and I hit that depression again where all i wanted was to give up, and all I did everyday was cry or get mad at ds. My husband tries to understand but his family doesn't talk about these things like mine did, I finally had to force my husband to listen to me and.now he is starting to understand and that helps a lot now, he is actually getting therapy for himself now to. I'm back on mediation right now but I'm ok with that. To any one dealing with depression, anxiety,.or any other form of mental health. You are not alone! And if anyone here needs someone to talk to you can message me.
I am so sorry, sunshine. Thank you for sharing and please don't be embarrassed. You fight a battle every day that most people cannot even begin to imagine. I wish you continued strength for the fight.
I'm glad your husband is listening and beginning to understand, proud. It's difficult for people who don't have a diagnosis to fully understand the fight and the impact the disease has on those who are diagnosed. I'm glad you're getting the help you need!

I was struck by that too, ss. And the sincerity of the hugs-leaning in, squeezing. Passing light to each other.

Depression hurts in so many ways. It hurts our minds, bodies, our loved ones. And still so many people do not understand depression.
