Gynecology appointment today
Gynecology appointment today
I posted a couple months ago about perimenopause. I finally have my gynecology appointment today. They are doing an ultrasound to rule out cancer and other possible causes of my symptoms. I have a history of benign tumors, one of which took my left ovary when I was 25 and pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. I am really struggling to not have severe anxiety over the appointment and the possible outcomes. I am choosing to believe that I am beginning perimenopause because in my mind, that's the lesser of the evils presented. Regardless, the appointment today will likely mean big changes for me moving forward and I would really appreciate positive thoughts.

Positive thoughts your way!! ?
If it is just perimenopause, is there anything to be done?? I ask because I think I am starting it. Main symptom: hot flashes!! I'm 38.

Thanks, ladies. I will keep you posted!
@just: there are hormonal supplements, birth control, etc. I am only 40, so the thought of a long term synthetic hormone regimen does not thrill my soul. I have made some changes to my diet in the last month in an attempt to control unnecessary hormones, but haven't really seen a change in my symptoms so far.

@pookie, I'm on the pill. Have been pretty much forever when I wasn't trying to get pregnant. The hot flashes hit during the placebo week. I also have PCOS so I was going to ask at my next gyno appt if that could have an effect as well. It's a hormone imbalance so I thought it might.
Thanks for the info and good luck! ?

From one 40 year old to another, I pray for the best outcome possible. Hugs! I'm here if you need support!

@just: I'm on the pill as well but it doesn't seem to be effective anymore. I get hot flashes as well along with a plethora of other symptoms. Between the hot flashes and night sweats I feel like a sweaty mess 24/7!
And thanks, yaya. I appreciate it.

Pookie, I have a question. What happened to the tumor found on your ovary? Did you need surgery? You don't have to answer if I'm getting to personal.
Best wishes for today at your appt!
Renee·
Thank, Murdock.
Not too personal, king. I had it surgically removed, along with my left ovary which it had basically strangled. I had no real symptoms, just an annoying low grade temp that wouldn't resolve. Doctor thought it was a uti but all they could identify was trace amounts of blood in my urine. An ultrasound showed a golf ball sized mass on my ovary. I had surgery less than 3 weeks later and it was the size of a grapefruit and had completely killed the ovary. I was actually fortunate, with how fast it grew, if they hadn't found it, I likely would have had to have a hysterectomy.

Hope everything comes out well. Good look!

Oh wow, good thing it was removed quickly after being diagnosed, pookie. I just found out I have a cyst on my ovary. Now the wait begins to find out more. ?
Renee·
I'll be thinking of you, king. That wait is hard. Does the doctor have any idea what kind?
Renee·
An update for those who wanted one: I have a small cyst on my ovary that should resolve on its own (yay!). My other reproductive organs look healthy, although my cervix bled fairly profusely when he did my exam and that concerned him a bit. He changed my birth control and ordered blood work that has to be completed during my next cycle. The labs will check my thyroid and estrogen levels, as well as my B12 and glucose levels, just to rule out any other potential issues. I have a follow up appointment in 4 weeks. If nothing changes over the next month, he's going to have me stop taking birth control for 3 months to see if my body will "reset" itself. If I continue having the same symptoms, he'll do a scope of some kind and insert a camera into my uterus to see if there are fibroids or perhaps endometrial tissue growing inside the uterus.
So basically, I have another month before I have any sort of answers, but the good news is there is no sign of cancer and there are multiple options available depending on what all the tests show.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate them greatly! ?

I'm sure the waiting is so hard. I'm glad that cancer was ruled out early. Hopefully you get some relief with the new birth control. Hugs!!!

Thanks, yaya. ?
