It's like that with anything that says "for babies". The tiny jar of "baby" Vaseline is as much as the giant sized regular one too.

ETA: I just looked closer at the picture. With this particular brand that's not the case. They did seriously just mark up the price. ?? but in some cases the infant kind really is more expensive because it's more concentrated.

If you read the back, it's the same medicine with the same quantity per ml.

I like how children's is ages 2-11 and infants is 2-3? So if your child is 2, they can have either one? And since when is a 2 year old an infant?

I actually contemplated that as the reason, lk. I read the back twice just to make sure. Then I checked the Tylenol brand and it was the same with the same price difference...I think they have to be the same concentration now because there were overdose issues when the infant was more concentrated.

It's just like you can get a two liter of soda for 99 cent but a 16 oz soda can cost up to 1.50 because you don't need a cup. It's all convenience and they want you to pay for the convenience of having the syringe and the top of the bottle is made for the syringe .

Infants come with a syringe while children's come with a cup. Syringe is more accurate and the cups usually don't have a measurement line below 1 tsp and an infants dosage would be below that. So if you already have a syringe at home I believe it's fine to get children's.

Well I was going to say they are intended for different ages but I see both bottles say 2 as the age limit. That's so odd. I've always seen infant medicines for 2 and under. 2 is not an infant. That's a toddler

Yeah the price is because they're due free, but the concentration of medicine is different between the two so they aren't interchangeable dosage wise. And often infant medicine says 2-3 years even though you use it for smaller children because they can't recommend medicine for children younger or give dosages and you have to get those for younger kids from the doctor.

Obviously the infant one is intended for babies under 2. They just don't put that on the box because your supposed to get the correct dosage from your pediatrician first for babies under 2 years old.

You're essentially paying for the syringe to get an accurate measurement for babies. You're technically not supposed to use a dosing cup or syringe that didn't come specifically with the medication, but I save the ones from the pharmacy or my dr. Some syringes don't have the correct lines you would need for a baby's dosage of Tylenol, the syringe that comes with the infants one have all the lines you would need up until they weigh enough for above 5ml, then you can use a the cup in the children's one.

I prefer the infants one so I can know for sure my baby is getting a correct dose, which is extremely important for their tiny bodies.

@five they are the same concentration. If you look at a dosing chart for acetaminophen for babies it is the same dosage for the same weight between infant and children's. For example it says for 12-17 pounds infant dosage is 2.5ml and children's is 1/2 tsp. They are the same amount just labeled differently due to the infants having a syringe which is in ml and the children's having a cup which is in tsp.

I think Ibuprofen has a different concentration between infants and children's though.
