Tree nut allergy
My son was just diagnosed with a level 4 tree but allergy. Any moms in a similar boat? How do you safeguard against unintentional exposure? He's only 4.5, so I can't trust that he'll always remember to ask about nuts. We have an epi pen and he has one at school as well. What more can we do?

I have Seen wristbands they can carry that says what their allergic too. Also like tags for their backpacks. I think it's a good idea since he is little.

That's a really good idea. He loves bracelets, so maybe I can find a "cool" med alert bracelet for him to wear.

Bracelet for sure and teach him to always ask if stuff has nuts in it! I'm allergic and you would be surprised at how many things have nuts or peanut oil to fry food in.
Also make sure his friends parents know of course and are aware of how to use a epipen when staying the night somewhere. ❤
Its a hard allergy because nuts are every where :/ but very manageable with proper precautions. Good luck momma!

Thanks! Thankfully he can have peanuts-that makes it a tiny bit easier. But every other but is a no go. Guess I'll be purging my house today of all things nut.

My LO has a level 4 peanut allergy (not all nuts) and I've always make sure you write down in a card all that he's allergic to in his backpack for anyone to see, along with his epi pen.
The bracelet thing is a good idea. I may try that when he's a little older.

The most important thing is to teach your son about it. My son has milk and peanut (earth nut) allergy and he knows very well always have to ask about these 2 containing. He's 9 now, but from the age of 3 he knew he couldn't have lots of things because of his allergy. Just try to talk to him about it a lot, because kids are a lot smarter then we think. Good luck with this!

My friend has temporary tattos that say "allergic to eggs" with a pictogram of an egg with a black X on it. She uses it when they go to new places where people may not be aware that he is allergic.

The tattoo idea is a good one as well. And we have definitely talked with him about it and will continue to do so. It was his awareness of his own body that made us get him tested, because despite having had nuts multiple times, he ate one last week and immediately spit it out because his tongue was burning and he felt like he was choking. I'm hopeful that awareness continues.

How did you find out what type of level your son was? My son is allergic to peanut's. His doctor said he is allergic to peanuts and stay away. That was it.
I would just let everyone one know who will be watching your son that he has a allergy. I make everyone wash their hands. Family members aren't allowed to kiss on cheek , just incase they ate something!. I've had some get mad at me for that. Butt he has actually had a brake out because of my sister kissing him & she ate something. I second the bracelet.
At school my son isn't allowed to eat any food. He takes his lunch. He can't have any food at the parties they have. I told his teacher to let me know when they one. I will take snacks that he can eat so he doesn't feel left out.

We had blood work done and then had the blood results verified by a scratch test because the allergist couldn't believe he was coming back a level 4 and hadn't had a complete anaphylactic episode already.
