Lol! I've never had one before. I yelled for my 4 year old to come look and he said "you're weird, mom". ?? guess I'm the only one who thinks its cool.
Two of my chickens lay double yolkers all the time. They are genetically predisposed to lay eggs like that, but it's not every time. Very rarely two chicks can grow and hatch from the same egg, but they usually don't make it all the way.
And these would have been twins like fraternal twins only, not identical. This doesn't happen because of an embryo split, but more because the hen's cycle had a little timing mix-up and rushed out two embryos at once.
They aren't Leah. There are no roosters kept at most industrial laying facilities. This isn't a yolk that split because it was developing (not sure if that's what you are questioning or not). It's two separate yolks, because the hen's body released two eggs similtaineously and packaged them into one shell.
Aw that makes sense! Then I'm looking at you Nes! No roosters means no poor babies. Unless you're eating balut, but that's a completely different story
Lol honey ... don't think of an egg as a baby. It really wont make them more appealing for you im sure but instead you should try ...
... Fair warning, anyone who likes eggs should probably not read this if you want to keep liking them ...
... try thinking of chicken eggs as the result of the hen's reproduction cycle like how we women release an egg. Only they usually release one a day and keep the embryo safe in an eggshell, and people usually only release one a month and keep it safe in their uteruses. An egg is coming out regardless if there was fertilization or not.
Atta girl! Just remember that if you are buying your eggs from the grocery store those hen's have never ever seen a male. They will all probably die virgins poor dears lol.
No boys = never a chance that egg was going to be a baby. So yeah in a way, some people do consider them to be the chicken's period lol.

I've never had this happen! It's pretty cool.
Eta: does this mean they would of been twin chick's, is that even possible?
Renee·
I honestly don't know, Samir's. I'll have to google it. I would assume it's possible to have twin chicks.

I got a double yesterday making muffins! It was so unnecessarily exciting lol.. Kids thought I was nuts

I knew you would know, Raven! I almost bumped for you! Thanks!

There are some cool YouTube vids of people helping a double-chick egg hatch if anyone wants to check them out!

I posted a picture like this years ago, but I had 3 double yolks back to back! It was weirdly intense cracking each egg after the first haha.

I've never had this happen ?

I've had about seven of these! About five were during the time I was pregnant with twins. Pretty strange for sure.

When our girls first started laying, we would get about 5 double yolks out of 10. We even got a triple yolk before!! That was awesome!

RIP baby chicks ? I hate eggs.
Anyone hear about that guy that bought ostrich eggs and put them under a heating lamp. One of them hatched!
deleted-user·
I thought the eggs you buy at the store aren't fertilized?

MommyNes said poor baby chicks, so that's why I asked.
That's cool to know, though! I get double yolk eggs sometimes. :)

Renee·
Hahaha, ice!
This was my first ever and I'm 39! I was shocked and totally excited.

I'm sure that didn't help, Raven, but it did make me chuckle. So basically, eggs are a chickens period?
Poor Nes, she's probably throwing up in her mouth right now.

So sad? I'm pro life.
Jk this is cool but also a bit sad LoL

Fil has free range chickens. He calls double yolkers "ouch eggs" because they're usually bigger ?
deleted-user·
Ew! ? oddly enough, I could eat a chickens period. Just no babies.
