Wow... I'm sorry the landlord did that. Did you have a rental agreement? If you're already planning on moving to California, I say take the opportunity to go now. Three months to really get on your feet is a nice security blanket.

That sounds like an amazing opportunity. I would be livid with that landlord for the other home though. Did you have a signed rental agreement? Also, I hope you got your deposit back. If your mom is offering you a home with no bills, I would jump at the opportunity. The long distance relationship part would suck but if it's only for a very limited amount of time I['m sure you and your husband could make it work.

Thanks, ladies. The agreement had a clause in it that it could be revoked within 72 hours of signing by either party. We did get out deposit back, thank goodness.

The long distance aspect hurts my heart-for me and my husband, yes, because we've never been apart that long in 8 years. But more so for my kids and for him missing out on the kids-it's not a long time to be apart, but his family is his life and it will be a huge adjustment.

I'm afraid I'm too biased to weigh in here, but...of course you should come to CA.

How fast would your husband be able to find a job in California? What happens when the three months are up and you need to move? Would you be able to find anything affordable? It sounds more like a temporary solution that could end up giving you bigger problems in the long run.

Bella: My husband is in environmental service management within the hotel/hospitality industry and works for a world wide company, so theoretically, he would be able to find a job fairly easily.

I would also be looking for work (would be in PA as well) and from what I've researched online, there are ample opportunities.

I'm sure my mom would extend our stay if necessary, but we would also be able to find a cheap rental if necessary-I grew up in the small town we would initially be in, so I don't think we would face the same situation we are now. But, believe me, all those possibilities have crossed my mind! The situation is nerve wracking to say the least.

I wouldn't move to a new state without a job lined up. I would ask the landlord who your renting from now if you can extend your lease to a month by month and explain what happened to the other place. until you find a new place. The other landlord that changed his mind can't do that. You already put down a disposit, which usually you sign a lease the same day. He can't break that with out 30 days notice. I would take him to court.

In PA you would be more stable because you husband has a job. In CA you would have a temporary place to live but expenses like storage, gas, diapers, car payments. Add up and even 2 weeks without a job can really set things back and put you in the hole.

So I say yes great move if he will have a for sure job lined up when he moves.

Amber: our current landlord is not willing to extend, for even an extra week. Taking the other landlord to court is pointless-he gave us the deposit back and no decision would be made in the next 10 days by the courts anyway.

While we would be stable in the sense of my husband having a job, we would be unstable in that we would be homeless and be paying funds for storage anyway, along with a hotel.

Couldn't you stay where you are and wait for an eviction?

I know sounds harsh, but if you have nowhere to go and keep paying the rent, he can't kick you out without a court order

I really don't want an eviction on record-that will affect the next place we live and isn't really the right thing to do. She gave us the proper notification, she has been a decent landlord for the last nearly 4 years, no need to ruin that now by screwing her over and ruining our reputation in the process.

I say move. You are wanting to move back there anyways and this sounds like your chance. Moving across country will always be hard and expensive, but you have a place to live and your husband has a job right now.

You made me chuckle, collie! I moved out here for college. Managed to make it to the suburbs, but it's never been my favorite place. My husband is Philly born and raised...SoCal is going to be an eye opening experience for him!
