Breastfeeding and PCOS (help please!)

Breastfeeding and PCOS (help please!)

I have a friend who is due the beginning of April with her first baby. She has PCOS and had two miscarriages prior to naturally conceiving this baby. As she gets closer to birth she is concerned that she may have trouble breastfeeding because of the PCOS. She attempted to talk with her midwife and her midwife blew her off and told her she was "pre stressing" and not to worry about it until she has an actual problem. She has tried to google info and ends up feeling more worried about it. I know this group has a lot of women who are well educated on breast feeding and I would love any information, websites, insight you could give me to pass along to her. Thanks!

She said it has to do with smaller amounts of glandular tissue possibly limiting milk supply. I have never researched it either. I will let her know you guys are successful without any unusual difficulty!

Edit:I'm impressed by your multitasking abilities, ladies! Lol

I have severe pcos. I had 2 babies with the help of fertility meds and 1 surprise baby. I successfully ebf my first two for 13 months each and am currently breastfeeding my third. He's 22 months old and we're still going strong. The biggest problem I had with my first was latching because of inverted nipples. But we got the hang of it. I've only ever heard of 1 woman having problems because of pcos and I know a lot of women with the cobdition. She really shouldn't worry yet. There's not much you can do ahead of time. "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" is a great book of she'd like a resource.

Thanks so much, yaya! I actually screen shotted (is that a word?) your response and sent it to her.

I have PCOS and never had a problem exclusively breastfeeding either of our girls.

I couldn't agree with Yaya more!

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is a wonderful book I think every new mom should be handed with What To Expect When You Are Expecting when they find out they are pregnant! ?

My SIL has PCOS, it took 3 years of fertility treatments to conceive her first. She's now successfully breastfed her first to almost 2 years and is still going strong with her one year old.

Same here.

One mc. Got pregnant an additional two times with the help of metformin (for ovulation).

BF my first son for a little over 2 years. I did have supply issues at first and had to supplement for the first couple months (he lost a TON of weight so I had to supplement). Then successively continued, with no problems, until a few months after his second birthday. I'm currently BF my second (as in right this second....lol). He's 3 months. I've had no supply issues at all this time.
