Methotrexate?
So I am currently awaiting the methotrexate shot after seeing on yesterday’s u/s something in my left tube. I’ve had slow rising hcg for 3 weeks now. How long after were you able to try again? I’ve read 3mths, 6mths and a year. Didn’t ask my dr yesterday because I felt so overwhelmed and the hospital doing the shot seem to have NO experience with this procedure. My nurse said she hasn’t administered this shot for an ectopic since she’s been here(very reassuring). My dr said he sees maybe 2-4 ectopics a year, but usually in the ER from rupture.
Thank you ladies. I’m feeling so much better and just hoping my numbers go down from here. Your words are so appreciated, more than you know. Everyone here has such unique stories and they are all truly inspiring.???
I was going to need this with my slow rising hcgs but then I miscarriedand they dropped. They said 2 cycles or 3 months. They do thw methotrexate shot at my fertility clinic in their office. I can't believe your RE let this linger for so long for you. When it was slow rising and continued to stay and it wasn't going down he or she should have given you this shot if nothing was in your uterus. Glad you got the Shot can work your way towards recovery and prep for another cycle. You'll be pregnant soon and this will be behind you. I'm thinking about you.
I’m home from the hospital now. Feeling pretty nauseous and exhausted. Going next Wednesday for my first hcg test and seeing dr on Friday, but my dr said not to be surprised if my numbers don’t drop right away. God, I hope this does its job, I just want closure and my health.
More2Come that is not actually correct information Methotrexate long term usage and effect on pregnancies is two completely different things. Long term usage is an issue because it can become medically taxing on the rental system-the toxicity level of this drug is very high and even the smallest residual amounts can cause harm in the early stages of fetal development and to any pregnant woman. It is a very potent medication.
As a nurse (I work in L & D) it’s definitely best to wait the suggested 2 months. It sucks and I’m sorry for what your going through!! I also have a child with special needs who requires weekly methotrexate injections and I wasn’t even allowed to handle the vile while pregnant let alone administer her injections. Metho is nasty stuff and always best to follow the precautions to a T. Good luck hun and sending you positive vibes ?
I had the shot back in Feb. Unfortunately for me it took a week to begin the MC process and then because I was almost 10 weeks it took awhile for my HCG levels to come down. so by the time they came down it had had already been a few months and we started TTC month 3 after having the shot.
After reading research studies and methotrexate and pregnancies it seems 1 shot of methotrexate isnt (statistically) as harmful to future pregnancies as people make it out. Its the multiple dosages / long term use thats concerning. Like those who are being treated with methotrexate regularly.
I think the advised 3 month wait and folic acid is mostly a precaution. Additionally your body needs to heal you wouldnt want a 2nd ectopic.
The actual shot is fine, mine was administered in my rear. But, with my dr, they admit you to the hospital and you have to stay for 24 hour monitoring. I’ll be here until tomorrow afternoon. So far I feel ok.
I came to the hospital today and received the shot around 2pm. I’m sorry for your loss...
How are you doing?
