Is It Normal to Have Lumps on the Cervix?

My obgyn lied to me?

Are lumps/bumps on the cervix normal? I always thought the cervix was supposed to be smooth. I've been having a few alarming signs of something being wrong (spotting, constant uterine aches, pain with any kind of vaginal penetration and a few other tmi issues) and my doctor dismissed it like it was nothing. I've had these issues for about a two and a half months. This was my first time going to this particular doctor (honestly feel like she was rushing me, she was running behind). She attempted a pap smear but couldn't even do it because inserting anything is painful. She checked with her fingers and felt the lumps and just said "oh yeah that's normal". She diagnosed me with vestibulitis, but that only covers the painful insertion. But i feel like she's wrong or that's at least not all of the issue. I know it's not an std, I was tested during pregnancy and haven't had sex since conceiving. So not only did i not get my pap smear she downplayed the issues i was having.

Don't brush it off. Maybe your GP can give you a referral to a different Gyne? Good luck, OP.

I appreciate your responses and concern. We're fairly healthy eaters. Don't keep sweets or junk food in the house. We eat mostly vegetarian lately and turkey is our meat source when we have meat.

That's aweful. How's your sugar intake? Anytime I can't take the friction, I've usually eaten a lot of ice cream. And it's not a yeast infection, either believe it or not. It's just something that happens to me. I wouldn't describe it as glass though, I would lean more towards a burning feeling. I'm so sorry, OP, I wish I could help more :( I hope you feel better soon... definitely let us know what you find out.

TMI No dryness. When on my period there's enough blood to lubricate the way for a tampon. I've never had issues with tampons before. It's like the friction is too much.

I would do that but any insertion is too painful. The ob couldn't even really use the speculum and perform my pap smear. And she brushes it off as just sensitivity ?

Man... I have experienced all you're saying (except the insertion feeling like glass part) and now that I am pregnant the pain and bleeding is gone. I can guess it was a hormonal in my case and it does sound like it could be in your case as well. Like everyone said, I would try a second doctor, not only for a second opinion, but also to chance upon a doctor who is willing to listen like PP said.

Is the glass feeling dryness at all? I can't stand inserting or taking out tampons when I'm dry... gives me the creeps ?

@filterless:

I got mine online (a pack of 10 plastic disposables) for like $4.00 with$6.00 shipping... not a bad price.

So, the thing with my bumps is that they're not always there! I had tried to get them looked at again and again and no one could see what I was talking about. Your cervix goes through a lot of changes throughout the month and sometimes skin will be exposed one week and gone the next. Trying to schedule around my doctor's schedule was hit or miss. By buying the speculum I could wait until the bumps were there, take the picture, and then show the doctor on my phone. Best part? I didn't even have to take my pants off ☺️

I don't have a speculum but i assume you could get one online. I do cervical checks occasionally with a clean finger. Because I do these regularly I am able to identify differences and abnormalities within my vagina. And of course an ob is better at this but how do I know to go to the doctor if I don't know there's something wrong.

Where does one buy a speculum? It seems easier to just go to your OB and have them look themselves.

Yes i had stitches but my original doctor said i didn't tear that bad at all. Not sure how many stitches i had. I mention a hormonal imbalance to the next doctor just in case.

Eta i have no burning or itching so i don't think it's a yeast infection.

Maybe some sort if yeast infection or hormones. I'd most definitely get a second opinion.

Please get a second opinion. I had pain during intercourse (or any kind of vaginal penetration) and it took several doctors before I finally found one who would listen to me and helped me work through it. Took years before I finally got it resolved and it ended up being caused by a hormonal imbalance (and not just in my head like I kept being told).

That does not sound normal at all!

Did you get stitches after giving birth? I know my stitches took at least 6-8 months before that area felt normal and healthy.

I would seek another opinion ASAP.

No plan b. No oral contraceptives. No contraceptives of any kind. No sex at all either. TMI but i have clear mucous streaked with blood on occasion. Constant uterine aches. With my first period (barely enough blood to even need a pad) i tried a tampon and it felt like i was shoving glass up there, i made it half way. Then i couldn't get it out because it was too painful. It took about an hour to get it out. ?

Have you taken plan B recently?

ETA: no you haven't because you haven't had sex lol.

So something I realized is that they do not test you for more than a few STDs. I think they do hep b, aids, gonorrhea and chlamydia. If you want to test for other STD's, you have to ask for that test specifically.

I should add that I was having pain, though not with insertion.... cervical and uterine pain, some abnormal bleeding and I guess what looked like irritation on examination. She called it a "friable cervix", but the next two doctor I talked to about it didn't know what a "friable cervix" was.....?? It was weird.

Hey, so, I do regular cervical checks on myself and in the last year or two I have felt some bumpiness there. I got worried and bought a speculum and took a picture to show my OB. I got to show it to him the other day and he called them "nabothian cysts". Bumps CAN be normal, but you'll want to get them looked at for confirmation. The pain sounds weird though :(

Sorry I don't have any info for you but I've also experienced pain with penetration and my son is 18 mos old even though it's starting to taper down but can still be excruciating with deep sex
