pumping through a growth spurt help
pumping through a growth spurt help
My lo is 3 weeks old and I think going through her first growth spurt. I for the most part exclusively pump and try to bf when I can can(latching issues). Not only is she diminishing what little milk I had saved up(typically about 16-18oz ahead of her) my supply is for some reason going down. I pump as often as I can. It's hard to pump when she won't let me put her down and she spits up almost every feed even though I burp her and sometimes in between feeds, therefore I need to feed her again. So that's not helping. How can I up my supply, even though I'm pumping regularly, to keep up with her needs?

Up your water intake and try a few power pumping sessions. If possible just put her to the breast so she can give cues to your body to make more milk.
Is she hungry again after she spits up and giving you cues? Or are you just offering a bottle because she has spit up.

When she spits up I'll wait until she gives me cues but it's usually like 40 minutes after she spits up. But then she'll take down another 3oz. She seems to like to eat until she's too full and I think that's why she spits up. I try to give her less to see if she'll relics she's full but she just screams.
What's a power pumping season? I also drink mother's milk tea and eat oatmeal occasionally. I drink tons of water. I also pump overnight which is mentally killing me. I feel like I live next to my pump but I'm still failing.

When my little one wants to be held but I need to pump I'll sit in bed cross legged and tuck her in by my knee, so she feels like she's being cradled but I have my hands free to pump. You could also get a hands free nursing bra so you can hold her. The most important thing is pumping every 2-3 hours, no matter what

I sit like that a lot with her. Sometimes it works sometimes she knows the difference. Are there any inexpensive hands free pumping bras?

Supplement wise, you can try:
1. Mother's milk tea (contains fenugreek).
2. Lactation cookies (Google recipe).
3. Oats/Oatmeal.
Other things to do:
1. 6-8 expressions a day including one in the early morning, say 3am.
2. Check flange size is still right. I found I had to go down one size four months into exclusive pumping (still produced plenty of milk just had to use smaller flange).
3. Check suction is still good in the pump.
Last resort, there is prescription medication to encourage more milk supply (Domperidone), if you are not in the US. Bub's paed or your family doctor should be able to prescribe.

Lots of fluids, fenugreek, mother's milk tea. Pumps won't empty your breasts as efficiently as your baby. I pumped exclusively for a while around that time until I was able to get my supply back up. Keep offering to nurse your baby between pumping/bottles. As long as you're offering and even doing so occasionally it shouldn't end BFing. When I was in your shoes I was so worried it was the beginning of the end but we pushed through. Nursed till my son was almost 2. You can do it :) Oh! And Google 'power pumping.'

She's been on the bottle so long I'm losing hope she'll ever ebf. I try and she fights it so much. Screaming and basically having a heartbreaking meltdown.

Hopefully this will help. Power pumping info is also in the link.

Inexpensive hands free nursing bra is take a semi loose fitting sports bra one that will hold the cups but not too tight or it will affect supply and cut slits in it if you Google how to do it then it will help a lot
