I had to pump after leaving the hospital due to latch issues. We stayed with MIL for a week. Once we went home my friend came over to help me. After that I breastfed with bottles only when we went out or MIL wanted to feed her. It can be done.

Are there lactation consultants and baby clinics where you live? It's not too late but both of you need to be shown how to latch. It was explained to me that babies are born knowing how to suck but not how to latch and if mum doesn't know how, they need someone to show them because it's a skill like any other and not something we know how to do just because we have breasts.

She gets so frustrated. She's a very fast eater and ends up having serious crying and screaming fits. I hate pumping it's so mechanical I feel like a damn cow. I don't know how to get her to calm down in order to latch.

I know Australian resources but it might not be helpful for you. We also have free breastfeeding circles in early childhood clinics, do you have something like that? It's hard to offer help over the Internet, may be try expressing till letdown happens and latch her on then. Are you waiting too long to feed and not reacting to first hunger cues? It may be also normal because newborn don't have this trust that they will be fed that older babies develop.

Of course she's going to be mad... she has to work for the milk. My son was the same way when learning to latch. He cried and screamed and thrashed around. Eventually though they calm down and realize it's the only way they'll eat is if they work for it.

The lactation consultant at the hospital that you delivered at should be free. I've never heard of having to pay a lactation consultant.

There's got to be a La Leche League chapter near you. Google one!!

It's a long story but the hospital I delivered at is 3 hours away. So at the moment that's not really an option.

I pumped for 6w before getting ds on breast. It is possible. Takes a lot of work though.

Not too late! I went back and forth with my son for the first two months. There was one whole week that I exclusively pumped when he was 3 weeks old, then did a combo of both and he did fine. Just let baby latch periodically, even if just a little while.
