Induction advice please
I'm being induced Wednesday with my first child. Starting to definitely freak the heck out. I have an appt in the morning and I've got questions for my dr but she's not too helpful.

I didn't think being induced was a big deal at all. I have heard stories of it being worse than going into labor on your own but I didn't think so at all

I got induced with my son and it was a great experience I think a lot of it has to do with how ready your body is. When I went in I was 80% effaced 3 cm dilated and I think 0 or +1 station so my body was ready to go into labor. Thy stared pitocin at around 6:30am and honestly I didn't feel anything even though they said I was contracting at around 11:00am they broke my water and that is when active labor kicked in I then got the epidural and within 45 minutes dilated to 9 cm I started pushing around 3:00pm and he was out at 3:30 pm so start to finish about 9 hours hope this helps

I've never successfully induced naturally, so I don't have any advice there. But I was medically induced my last pregnancy, so I can tell you how that went.
They started with a cytotec two days before induction to ripen my cervix. I'm not sure how much it worked or not.
The day I was induced, I got to the hospital at 6am. They started my IV for fluids and pitocin. I waited until around 7:45 for the dr to come, that's when he broke my waters. It was a tad uncomfortable but didn't hurt at all.
I didn't start having contractions from that or the pitocin until maybe 9am. They were pretty regular but pretty bearable until somewhere around 2pm.
Unfortunately, baby must be monitored at all times during induction, so I wasn't able to get up or walk around other than to pee because every time I tried, it moved his monitors and the nurses didn't like that. Also, no food. Idk if that will differ between hospitals, but all I could have were ice chips and Popsicles. Not even glasses of water.
So, after 2pm, (about 5/6+hrs in) I was starting to not be able to talk or do anything else during contractions, it took all of my focus to remain calm through them. I was checked and only dilated to about 3-4cm.
That discouraged me and I started to lose focus. Soon, I was panicking through each contraction. They were only minutes apart, and incredibly painful. There are no words to adequately describe the intensity of them.
I think the key to avoiding pain meds is to keep your mental self calm and focused. Once I lost that, things were too intense for me to calm back down. I had what felt like no breaks.
At 4pm or so, I was still not dilated further than 4cm and got the epidural. RELIEF!
Serious relief. The pain was gone, all I could feel were the tightening of each contraction.
I didn't like having a catheter though. That was the worst part of the epidural for me.
From the pain of the contractions, I seriously have no memory of the epidural being painful or scary to administer. I do remember a 'cool' feeling as the catheter went in, though. Sort of tingled in my lower spine, felt real weird. But after, felt nothing.
The epidural made me nauseated briefly after insertion, and they gave me something through my IV and it was gone, so no biggie.
Things remained like this until around 12:45am. Some time around 12:30am, the epidural stopped working. I know it was still in because I could feel the cool sensation when i pressed the bolis button, but the pain was back worse than before.
Soooo bad. It was like I'd not even gotten the epidural.
Then, I felt a huge urge to poo and told the nurses to check me.
So at around 1am we found I was at 10cm.
I started pushing around 1:30am, my baby was born at 2:27am
So, about 18 hours of labor for me that time.
There was a very large portion where I didn't seem to progress at all, and that was very difficult. I think it was because we were forcing my body to labor before it had prepared itself.
I never hope to be induced again.
I know that some women's body's respond better or faster than mine did, so don't let my opinion discourage you :)
Keep in mind going in that mental focus is so key! (If you wanna avoid pain meds, anyways).
Good luck! I'm sure no matter how your labor goes you will be beyond words happy to have you baby :)

With my first I was induced due to him being ten days late. I had back labor but was barely dilated. They had me come in and started the pit at 9:30 AM. I slowly dilated to a three till 5:00PM and by that time I was sobbing because the pit had been cranked to the max and I felt like I was going nowhere. I finally asked for an epidural 1. Because I was in pain and 2. I felt like I needed a break and let my body relax. So at 6:00 PM had the epidural and boy was it amazing. They broke my water at 6:30 and I was dilated a 4. I went into transition at 11:00 PM and had him at 11:37 PM.
Everyone's bodies are different. Your body may or may not be ready for labor at the time. My body was just not ready. My son was so snug inside he was not budging. Have no worries. I've heard pitocin labor is different than actual natural labor but for everyone it could be different. Just know you do not have to be a martyr on pitocin. If you feel you need an epidural, go for it. Good luck!

It all has to do with how ready your body is; if it's ready to go you will have no dramas.
If you're body doesn't want to birth yet, it won't make it easy & you'll require higher doses and likely more interventions.
I read someone say that is a myth the other day, but it's statistically been proven. Interventions aren't just emergency cesarians; they're forceps, vacuums etc.
Saying that, your priority above worrying should be to get as much info out of your doctor ☺️ I wouldn't accept a doctor giving me an induction without a detailed reason as to why/how/what to expect etc etc.
inductions are, on average, quicker & more intense than a natural, spontaneous labour - I personally don't considering them unless I'm over 41 weeks ?
You have to remember that you're the boss in this relationship; the dr works for you - so get as much info as possible ?
