AF/Ovulation Question

So I recently got off birth control after 14+yrs and my last cycle was 36 days. When I was younger my periods were long and heavy. This month I had horrible symptoms but it only lasted 3 days with only one medium day with a minor clotting. Does this mean I didn't ovulate this month or could it just be different because I'm older?
