Who is pro or against pacifiers?

In my family it is extremely frowned upon to use pacifiers. Almost like an easy way out of attending the child and they hate seeing all these toddlers and older still with them and they just start criticizing. Now my son doesn't really care for it anyways and I don't really care either way but I'm just wondering if there are any other people out there who are opposed to pacifiers. I'm not here to judge I'm just curious if others avoid giving a pacifier.
