Late baby shower

I've known for a while that my mother in law is planning to throw me a baby "sprinkle" and I've been waiting for her to give me a date. I just found out that she's not planning on doing it till the 26th of August ? I'll be over 36 weeks by then. My husband has been trying to get me not to buy anything till after we have our shower to see what we get, but now that just makes me nervous that something's going to happen and I'm not going to be prepared. I'm very thankful someone is throwing me a shower, so I don't want to seem ungrateful about the date they chose. Do you think I should start buying things now so I'll be ready in case something happens or just take the risk and wait it out to see what all I'll get. I've already got most of the big purchases, but this is our first boy and I need boy things and smaller items like bottles, pacis, soap, diaper bag, baby medicine, diapers, wipes, etc. I'm sure if something did happen, it would work out in the end, I just hate the feeling of being unprepared ?
