How to help hoarse baby?

Sebi has a cold and lost his voice. He literally cannot scream anymore. Now I'm really worried that I won't hear him when he wakes up and he's gonna ball his little eyes out because no one comes to help him. I put a spoon in his cot and tried to explain that he should just bang it against the cot but I doubt he understood :(
