Hey mommies . At babies first appt her doc let me know she has a slight tongue tie , it has not effected breastfeeding , baby latches great so I decided against getting it clipped . I have been doing some research and I saw it can lead to speech issues when older . The doctor did tell me they usually correct itself and she has never had to send any of her patients to get it done.

Have any of you had to deal with a tongue tie in your older kids ? Did you get it clipped or notice anything as they got older if you didn't ?

Following. Bc my little guy has a slight tounge tie also. Annnd i googled and read the same that it could cause speech issues. His dr also said That it will eventually stretch as he gets older.

I just had my son’s clipped yesterday, his was moderate to severe and made BF impossible. I have already noticed a difference in BF, I had to completely stop since the pain was so bad but my little eater picked it right back up. I had the dr’s continue to tell me the same thing that it may correct itself on its own over time but I really didn’t see any negative in going ahead and getting it clipped if it could possibly make BF easier. The procedure took 1 min if that and he was good to go by the time I left the office. They said it feels as if you have bit your tongue. I guess if you guys are doing well BF you could wait to see if it has any long lasting effects such as speech but as I said for me I didn’t see any reason not to go ahead and take care of it while he’s young (my LO is 3 weeks).

I advise against clipping it, if you decide to do a procedure to remove it, I strongly suggest laser instead

My son, who is 5 now, was slightly tongue tied and didn’t bf well. We were also told that clipping might not improve bf. But we still clipped because we heard about speech issues when he got bigger. Dr recommended that if we wanted to do it, to do it while being an infant because it’s less painful. My son didn’t cry at all during the less than 1 min procedure. Clipping didn’t improve bf but we were glad not having to worry about his potential speech issue.

I had a pretty bad tongue tie for most of my life. It never really affected me in any area except singing. My voice teacher would say "keep your tongue behind your teeth" and I would always think "got this cause it's stuck there. Lol". Two of my kids have had tongue ties as well. My newborn now and my dd who is now 7. No problems for either. You can get it clipped if it becomes a problem. I got mine clipped in my early 20s when I was having my wisdom teeth removed because the doctor offered since I was already under anesthesia.

Thank you all ! We decided we won't do anything unless it effects her which of course we have a couple years before we know . I know it's not painful or major but I don't want to put her through a unnecessary procedure
