My baby is 7 days old and I've been breast feeding him since he was born. I ordered a pump thru my insurance and it should be here by tomorrow or Tuesday, and I have a few questions. First of all the LC at the hospital told me not to start pumping until 3 weeks but the pediatrician told me I can start whenever. I desperately need to start so my boyfriend can start helping me feed him, I am so exhausted being the only one that can do it, especially when he's cluster feeding at night time. Did any of you ladies start pumping sooner than 3 weeks? How long and how often should I pump for? Should I still feed him from the breast most of the time and just use the pumped milk for when we aren't home and for my boyfriend to occasionally be able to feed him? FTM so any advice helps. Thank you ?

Mine is almost two weeks and I have started pumping to build up my supply for when I go back to work. I pump whenever I'm full and it's uncomfortable Or I pump the other side when he is eating

My LC told me it's ok to go ahead and pump in fact I was pumping in the hospital because she had to stay under the blue light. I offer both breasts to baby first then if I still feel fulI pump for 10-20 min afterwards. If not I wait an hour then pump a little

I've been pumping since I was in the hospital. At first I was mostly pumping but now I'm mostly breastfeeding. So I only pump once-twice a day when I get time.

I'm only pumping with formula but they told me every 4 hours for 15 minutes. I try to pump after every other feeding and during the day I try to do after every feeding. But I'm not bf so it's a little different.

I started the day after I came home from hospital.. I don't feed from bottle tho unless I go to store and leave him with his dad. I store all milk for him and when I get enough I want to donate it to my sister who had her daughter prematurely at 27 wks. 4 days after o had my son

It's so funny how there seems to be no consensus. My LC told me not until 6-8 weeks, cuz that's when my milk supply would be firmly established. I've also been told not to bottle feed before 6 weeks to avoid nipple confusion. But I've read starring at 4 weeks is fine... who knows anymore. I plan to start at 4 weeks to slowly introduce it and to give my nipples the occasional break. I say only you know your body and your baby, so go with your gut.

My son is 11 days old and I breastfeed him but I'm pumping after he finishes eating . I'm building up my supply for when I go back to work . My husband has also given him a bottle , if I need a break . I also give him a pacifier ..... so I'm basically doing everything they told me not to do , lol. But it works for us and i did the same with my first .
He was breastfeed until he was 1.
