Dilation question
This might sound stupid to y'all but I'm a FTM. Does everyone get checked for dilation and when? Or do the Drs only check you if you're having contractions etc. I had my 37 week appt today and forgot to ask. I just didn't know if it was routine or if they only did it if they had a reason / concern.

@shelley yes that's what made me wonder! I'm gonna ask my dr at my next appt how they do it there. I'll be 38 weeks next time.
I was wondering the same thing! So I asked at my 36 week appointment because I've seen so many people say they get checked around this time and my midwife told me they check AT 39 WEEKS... and still thought it was a little weird because I know people who got checked before but reading these comments made me feel better. 39 weeks is normal?
Thanks ladies! I've heard it basically means nothing like a lot of you said. I was just curious if everyone gets it done. I guess it depends a lot on the dr. Not sure if I'll get checked or want too. I hear it's not the best feeling lol.
I was checked at my 36 week appointment but I think only because I mentioned I was having soooo much pressure, it's unbearable. She said I was 50% effaced no dilation. I have my 37 week appointment on Tuesday, I'm going to opt out of her checking me... I just feel like at this point I'd rather not know. If I am, it's just going to make me nervous and anxious... and if I'm not, I'm just going to feel impatient so I'm over this dilation thing. Plus, the check is uncomfortable lol
My doctor checks at 36 weeks since she's doing a GBS anyway. I think she's checks weekly after that. I don't remember with my first and I've been having contractions and my cervix was "super soft" at the 36w check so she checked me again. Almost at a 2. She said if I haven't gone into labor by next appointment she can do a membrane sweep when she checks if I want her to.
