Did anybody self pay for their harmony test?

How sure are you that your insurance won't pay? Did you call the insurance company and ask or did your doc office call with the CPT codes to check? The general assumption is that a lot of insurances won't pay unless prior issues or maternal age but that's not always true. My insurance paid 100% of mine and I'm 27 with no family history of Down syndrome and baby is fine. I know every insurance is different but that's exactly why you have to call and check because your BCBS plan (just an example) may cover things that my BCBS plan with the same state doesn't.

I ended up paying for the natera test myself. Insurance didn't cover it. They don't charge until after the blood has been taken and the results are in.

I took the panorama test, $349. I also paid until after the test was taken. The nice thing was that they ran an estimate of putting it through insurance versus self pay. I have a high deductible so it came out cheaper to pay.

When I went to the lab the lady's told me I should check with my insurance first because it could be covers but with my decuctable it would have been cheaper to pay anyways. It's only 130$ self pay so I really don't mind paying it because I really wanted the test done. I was just making sure that they do bill you after words because I feel weird that I didn't pay for it yet so I just wanted to be sure that it's normal and that they do bill you afterwords.

I was also wondering will the dr call you with the results before you make the payment to the company? I've been checking everyday for the bill to come so I can pay it because I don't want that messing with my results and when I get them, but I know nothing about this and not sure how long it takes for the bill to come out.

I've heard so many different things I went through harmony I think my ob said if insurance didn't cover it it would be 100 and something it's kinda scary bc everyone is getting charged different amounts I haven't got my bill any and I called today and found out all my results

@dak7204 I agree. Did you call your dr to get your results? How long did it take? So you were able to get your results before you got the bill? Sorry for all the questions lol

My insurance is covering my but that's because my daughter has trisomy 13, but my friend went to the same Dr I do and her kids didn't have anything wrong with them she had to pay $275 but she said it was worth it.

@korinykole I took the test 12/5 they never called me so I got impatient and called today 12/14 they gave me the results over the phone however my ob gave me a paper to take to any lab now to get my blood drawn so maybe the billing is different since it's somewhere else

Honestly if you are far enough along I think I would rather pay for a sono from a speciality place that can tell you gender and see baby. That's jus me, and I bet it would be cheaper

I already got the harmony test done on Friday and I dont mind paying it because it's a lot cheaper than I expected it to be. Plus I've read a lot on how blood tests are more accurate then sonograms. This is my first pregnancy so I just wanted to make sure it was normal to get the results and then pay. I'm still learning a lot lol.

@dak7204 if I don't hear anything by next week I'll call my dr I just really wanna know my results before Christmas! But I think they should be in by then since I got it done the morning of 12/9. I've heard of a lot of people having to call their dr to ask and they already ended up having the results the dr just didn't call them yet. My ob also gave me a paper to take to any lab and gave me a list of different labs I could go to. Thanks for your info :)
