Zika

Hello ladies. So i live in Texas and my Dr sent me to go test for Zika. He said I would have to go once every trimester. Have any of you been advised to test or is it because of the region I live in?

I'm also in Texas and my doctor said it depends where you live. I'm in Austin and no where close has had a Zika outbreak. I was told just to wear bug spray when out by water.

I would definitely mention it to your doctor if you have traveled to Mexico.

@gooniegirl81 it’s definitely something you should mention to your doctor. My friend went and stayed with her in laws in Mexico for the whole summer and she was advised to wait a long time to get pregnant, I want to say 6 months but I cannot remember for sure.

I'm not too familiar with this but if you had visited Mexico recently should this be a concern? I went to 3 weeks this summer.

I went to Mexico in Feb and with my last pregnancy that ended in loss I was tested. It was negative but I only had to be tested once since I didn't live near Mexico. My doctor said if it's a constant concern then those mothers would be tested several times

Shallon...I guess it depends on the region. When i went to the exam they asked me if i had traveled outside the US and even asked what other parts of texas i had traveled to.

Oh ok, thank you. I'll see what my dr says Tuesday about getting tested. I thought I was done having babies when the whole Zika thing started and I was so relieved that I had my kids before (I worry about everything, lol). Well here I am almost 43 and having one more?

I went today to get tested and it was simple. They did a blood draw and urine test. They did advise us on using protection throughout pregnancy because it is transmitted sexually if my partner were to have it.

What part of Texas are you in? My first appointment isn't until Tuesday but I was researching on my own and it doesn't seem to be a problem here in Houston yet but they may still be testing people anyway.

I too live in Texas and will ask my doctor about this. I want to get tested and have my husband get tested too.

I just got back from south America and had to get tested. My test came back negative, but we'll keep monitoring for any changes just in case.

My husband needs to get tested too, otherwise we need to use protection/not have sex until the end of the pregnancy.

I am glad they are being super aware and making sure to test you along the way. That way you know for sure everything is okay.

Test is just a simple and quick blood draw, BTW.

I’m in the valley near Fresno, CA and thankfully it’s not a problem where I am. There are however posters about it all over the naval hospital I get medical treatment at. Because it can be sexually transmitted I am a little concerned as my husband has at least theee detachments between now and when I’m due and some to areas where Zika is a problem. It’s something I’ll be discussing with my ob when he’s traveling to affected parts of the country.

In SoCal and haven't been advised for that. Maybe it's because you're closer to the border?
