I've also looked into a completely new career change recently. I googled what qualifications I would need. Mine would be going to university full time for 3 yrs ? and I would also need to do an access course to get into university first which would be another 1yr full time study. Unfortunately I can't start mine at the moment but I will look into it again when we believe that we will be ok for me to stop working xx

Have you googled what qualifications you need? Where you can study for them? If they're full or part time courses, how much the courses cost? xx

I currently work in a school kitchen as the caterer and my company are well aware of my dbs. I just had to sign a form. Xx

I think it varies depending what's on your dbs and when. Also your age at the time as if under 18 they can't hold it against you.

If you're already in the school do they have TA jobs coming up? My sister started that way and when she got the TA job she worked hard, they released her one day a week and she's now a qualified SENCO (or whatever they now call them here)z

The midwifery thing sounds good, you can also train within the NHS when in it, my mum is a manager and recruits lots of older people that way with life experience. Worth looking into both. Xx

I wanted this 8-9 years ago and went in to what I do now with no qualifications and I care for children with end of life care and special needs children. We work in schools hospitals and the community.

They train u on the job basically a nurse we do more than some nurses.

I'm in surrey. I was 14 when it happened. And never been in trouble as an adult I'm not like that! I hate that being an idiot as a teen could have ruined my life!! I keep looking on the nhs website for jobs one has come up as a health care assistant in a&e in the children's bit. Who could I go to for help filling in application forms as I'm not brilliant. And that's why I didn't submit the last time the maternity care job came up. Xx

With the DBS thing I don't think that something you said as a 14 year old child will be permanently on your record :/

It will become a 'spent' conviction, if it was ever a conviction at all.

As for careers advice, there's not much around for adults. You might find some online questionnaires which could guide you though.

I called the Dbs company and because there's two things on there it will never be wiped! The other thing was just a petty breach of something stupid again at 14/15 years old. She told me they don't wipe them if there's more than one thing.

I think if you're already working within a school you should be ok, at interviews they ask if there is anything you want go disclose regarding the dbs, as long as you're honest I don't see a problem with it x
