It's meant to bring on labour it's a bit of an odd thing for them to recommend xx

I've heard this before, some do actually recommend it but I wouldn't do it personally xx

My son was diagnosed with a cleft lip and palate at our 20 week scan, so I was advised to start hand expressing and collecting milk from 37 weeks as establishing feeding with him was going to be tricky. I was told then that it'll only get labour going if he's ready anyway. He was born at 37+4 so I didn't get much milk saved! Xx

Same as Hannah my son was born with a cleft lip and palate and I saw breastfeeding specialist as I knew my son wouldn't be able to feed when he was born so I hand expressed and froze it. You literally get the smallest amount but any amount was good enough. He was born at 39+2 so got a good few syringes worth x

When does your milk actually come in I'm only 31 weeks I don't think I have any milk yet though ?

It will be colostrum she's harvesting, and sometimes recommended like the other ladies have said.

Sammi your milk will come in when baby is born, birth triggers the hormones to bring it on. You'll have colostrum first. Leaking during pregnancy has no correlation to supply once baby is here ?

Yeah it's only colostrum, and as Hannah said it would only bring on labour if baby was ready to come x

Same as Hannah. I have been advised to start hand expressing from 37 weeks and freeze the colostrum. My baby has major heart issues and will be tubal fed until he's stable enough to try and establish breastfeeding (which will hopefully be before his surgery)

It can bring on contractions but at 37 baby is considered term which is why I believe the midwives suggested expressing from then and not before x
