Oi scammer may have me by the short hairs

Sooooooo I got a pop up in my phone that was ostensibly from Apple about a possible virus and giving me a "customer care" number. Called it just to make sure and of course it's someone wanting me to pay a couple hundred dollars for an extended warranty on a phone that's only a couple months old or else I "won't be able to use it for the internet anymore for fear of losing my info". Here's the kicker. They have my serial number. I've been looking just to make sure, and I don't think anything can be done with that info. They don't have any of my passwords or anything. So you think I'm ok or not?! ?? just to be safe I deleted my banking app. And there's nothing else sensitive on the phone except my pictures. Oi. ?

They would also need an IMEI to really get into your phone. To be safe, I would download your bank app on a different device just in case.

When you call apple they ask for the serial number and the IMEI to have access to your phone. I don't believe there's much they can do unless they have both. I think (don't quote me on this) can take your phone to the Apple Store and find out if it's hacked.

Also make sure you report the number that you called and give them any info they have you.

And next time you can go to apples website to verify the number, it's also very rare that Apple contacts you.

I would ring apple and let them know about the message and phone call and the fact that the scammers had your serial number, see what they say. But I wouldn't worry too much because they would just have taken your details from your phone if they could but they obviously couldn't hence the message/ phone call

I work for apple tech support, close safari, clear your browser history and data in settings>safari and restart your phone.

Its a scam that iphone and samsung and chrome or computer users are getting it is not a virus but if you call the number they end up accessing your info by asking you provide info on your device
