So frustrated and need advice.
So frustrated and need advice.
So my dd is almost 7 mo now. She's been a champion nurser from day one, but I've struggled keeping my supply up despite all I've tried. But we made it through. Now she's eating solids (and absolutely loves them) but is so-so about nursing. She's still having plenty of wet diapers and colorless urine, but my supply seems to be tanking. She will take a bottle (and I've had to break down and giver her one here and there) but I hate giving her formula but don't respond to the pump well at all. She won't take any water (we're just experimenting with soppy cups right now). I just worry she isn't getting enough. She's waking several time a night still, and sometimes there's nothing coming out. She's not swallowing not anything. And obviously hungry because she wakes up again in just an hour or so starving and I cave and give her formula.

I should add, that she's very very tiny. She was born weighing 6 12 and just finally doubled that at her 6 month appointment. She dropped from 25th percentile to the 5-6th percentile around month 4. She's seemed to have stuck at that percentile at least but I'm understandably worried about her dropping any more.
She does have wets and poos like I said. And she's wonderfully active (she just learned to pull herself up to stand) and crawls all over the house. I'm just worried. And tired and frustrated with the supply issue.
It's mainly at night that's the huge issue. During the day she'll nurse, eat her food, and then nap and nurse again in 3-4 hour intervals. But at night she only gets milk and it doesn't seem to suffice. I can feed her once or twice, but the third time in dry and she can't get anything (and yes I drink throughout the night).
I don't want to do formula at all, but I'm wondering at this point if it's worth the aggravation and stress. I'm to the point that if I have another i don't know if I even want to bf. ?

What makes you think your supply is low? Or that she's not getting anything the third time you feed at night? It could be cluster feeding to help boost your supply. Did this just start? Could be a phase.
Babies can still wake at that age overnight. I'd like to think your worrying for nothing but maybe some other mothers can chime in.

6 months is a big growth spurt. She may be cluster feeding at night to build your supply for the spurt. It's better to just let her nurse. Giving formula will reduce your supply.

Is it possible something else is causing her to wake up? Teething? Ear ache? Too hot or too cold?

I would think growth spurt, but this has been going on for months now. At around 4 months she was only getting up twice, but around then she's been getting up 3-4 times.
The second feeding doesn't seem much because she only lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 hours after I feed her. I know she's not getting anything that third feeding because she suckles and sickles and doesn't swallow anything. Then she gets frustrated and cries. And tries again. It's only been lately that I've given in and given a bottle because I'm just so tired I can't function. I only give her 3 oz or so, and then she sleeps for 4 hours. So i don't know.
And I'm ok with her waking to eat especially as she's so tiny, but I wish she'd go back to once or twice a night like it was a couple months back. I mean, I know she's genuinely hungry because she sucks it down then goes right back to bed. I just don't think she's getting quite enough milk to sustain her enough to sleep a good stretch.

I wouldn't stress about how many times your baby wakes. My son was sleeping through the night at 5 months and then up constantly at 6 months. It got a bit better until he learned how to walk and talk. There were nights he was awake every 45 minutes. At 18 months, he wakes 1-2 times.
A baby's sleep is constantly changing and doesn't become predictable until 2-3 yeas of age for a lot of children.
As for your concern she isn't getting enough, I would talk to an LC to see if there are solutions apart from supplementing. Supplementing will only make your supply worse.
