So I'm a little freaked out for dd 4 month appointment we went in and the nurse weighed her and I knew she was petite but she was 11 lbs 8oz up from a bw of 6 lbs 12oz. Anyway I didn't think a whole lot of it until the nurse came back in because the doc wanted another weight because she was sure it must be wrong. (It wasn't). Now dd is EBF, and eats about every 3 hrs during the day and 2-3 times at night. She's happy and very strong (can sit and scoot and rolls around all over the living room) and she has a good wet diaper about 7-8 times a day and poops at least once a day. The doc says she's still proportional and wonderfully strong and that she's not skinny, but petite. But I'm worried she's not growing enough. She dropped percentiles significantly from about 26 ht and wt at birth and 2 months to 3rd for ht and 4th for wt. DS dropped about this age too but not nearly so much.

Does she seem satisfied after a feeding? Maybe pump and add some rice cereal to your milk to help her gain some weight? That would help you monitor her intake also. If you can't pump then maybe nurse her and do rice cereal with a spoon to help fill her belly up!

That's the thing. She seems perfectly fine after eating and we've added a cereal feeding in the evening per docs orders but I still worry. She loves her cereal at least but I worry she isn't getting enough nutrition wise even with the cereal

Some babies are just petite! I was a small baby. At a year old I was diagnosed with failure to thrive because I wasn't growing up to standards, but I was just little. My daughter seems to be the same. She's been around 5th percentile for weight since birth. At 3 and a half months, she's 10 and a half pounds!

If she had always been little I wouldn't be worried. The problem is she's dropped from 26th percentile at birth and 2 months down to the 4th percentile at 4 months. It shocked me really. She seemed to be thriving, and although not growing fast, she's active and happy. I was completely surprised there was such a difference.

I'd say try not to worry, as hard as that may be. My daughter was born big. She weighed 8lbs6oz at birth- at 41/2 months, she weighed 12lbs1oz. Like your baby, mine is extremely active. She is rolling all over the place, and scooting around. I have been breastfeeding, but have never produced enough, so she has been on formula daily as well. By the way, for me, no amount of fenugreek or any of the various brands of mother's milk teas made any difference whatsoever! My goal was to EBF, which was impossible, because I hardly produce. I had no milk or colostrum at all until 7dpp. It still devastates me, but my angel girl is happy and healthy, so I can't complain.

Do not add rice cereal to bulk up your kid. My kid was just a few oz more than yours at her 4 month appt. She is still little at 2 years old, only 22 pounds.
She met all milestones, she is very strong, she talks, she runs, she laughs, she makes many demands a day.
If your baby is happy, has enough wet diapers, and meets milestones don't worry.

No need to feed rice cereal. If she's meeting milestones and seems happy and satisfied after feedings then she is getting enough. I was worried too my daughter wasn't getting enough b/c she was so much smaller than her peers. But she was hittingf milestones appropriately. My Dr comments all the time how petite she is but she's been staying in the same percentile since birth. My Dr said she's just going to be small.

The rice cereal is not for bulking, but for iron. We have a history of anemia with her brother. Today she nursed after her nap but was unsettled so I tried to nurse her some more but she wasn't having it. I got flustered and upset and gave her some cereal and she downed it and was fine. I don't know. Maybe I need to get some formula and supplement. I hate not knowing what to do

It's normal for babies to get really distracted at that age and seem like they don't want to nurse. I've had to force my baby to eat several times around 4-5 months. Also it's not likely she is interested in your food because 4 month olds don't know what food is. She probably just wants to play with it. She's really young to introduce food so just try to nurse her more and if you're concerned then maybe try doing one or two feedings with a bottle of pumped milk to make sure she eats enough.
