I think committed couples can have less explicit consent languages. My DH can tell whether I'm into it or not without me spelling it out.

For people who haven't cultivated that level of communication, a conversation should absolutely happen before sex to establish consent.

There are ways to communicate consent in an ESTABLISHED, TRUSTING relationship like you're discussing pp. But consent is still needed in those situations (ie it can be rape in a marriage, relationship ect). It doesn't have to be verbal necessarily, but if you can't tell the difference, or if you're not in such a relationship how hard is it to say "hey is this ok?" Or "hey are you down for xyz?" I'd much rather kill the mood than have my partner feel at all coerced.

I don't understand why it's such a difficult concept to communicate explicitly about sex, given the massive number of consequences attached to the act (pregnancy, disease, etc).

If you intend to have sex with someone, you should also be adult enough to have a conversation about it.

Saailer, that doesn't take into account at all the different reactions people have. I was physically propositioned by a friend rather aggressively, I was so shocked and I'll admit scared I didn't say anything. I froze. Luckily he was enough of a man to notice I wasn't responding and stopped. Consent has to be given verbally or not. Not saying no doesn't count as consent.

Pp this post isn't made in direct relation to that, but addressed more to the general confusion about what consent really is.

But in regards to that, IMHO if she was as drunk as alleged, it was rape. She was in no condition to consent and those young men took advantage of that fact. She was foolish to get into that end roared state, but that does not excuse their actions in the least.

I dont know where that post went but it is still in my replies and op updated with even more information. It really changed the whole thing for me. I think maybe it was moved but I am not sure where to.
