Might just be baby's age, but I'm really struggling here. Every night, my sweet baby girl (4 months old) will only let me be the one to hold and comfort her. And she will only fall asleep and stay asleep now if I'm holding her. I shower before bed, and no matter the time, once she's asleep & I put her down to take a shower, she wakes up & cries until I come back to her. My poor husband is at his wit's end. He tries so hard to comfort her & it usually works in the morning bc he works at home while I'm at work most days, but at night all she wants is me. I feel like I can't do anything from 6 pm - 6 am away from her for even 1 second & it's starting to really drain me.

Sorry I have no advice here but I'm in the same boat. My son is 14 months and I'm still the only one that can put him to sleep at night and back to sleep if he wakes up. He nurses to sleep so obviously my hubby can't do that. We've just established a routine. I take showers during the day when hubby is home or I lock Jaxson in the bathroom with me while I shower really quick or we take baths together. I get everything done before I put Jaxson to bed knowing I'm out of commission until he gets up. I put him to sleep on the couch a lot so that I can stay up and watch TV or read but he can easily get boob when he wants it then I take him to bed with me when I go. When my hubby is home, (he works nights) he understands I'm stuck so he helps me with whatever I need once Jaxson goes to sleep. As he is getting older, I am able to sneak away to get things done within sight of him but I don't shower, knowing he could wake up and would just scream the whole time until I get out. It's exhausting being the only one who can be there for the baby at night but we've figured out a routine that works for us.

@cocobin He occasionally babywearing but should prob do it a bit more. He's an accountant so it doesn't help that he's in tax season & working extra hours...
@mviers I'm sorry to hear you're in a similar spot. Showering earlier is prob a good idea, although I do love having that time right before bed to unwind and relax but I guess that just has to change for the time being...
Thank you both for the comments. It's a struggle but I'm praying it's just a phase that ends sooner rather than later.

I hope things start to improve for you, tbh I would abandon Daddy trying to settle her when it's obviously distressing her..It is a phase and it will pass, she is still so so tiny. It's hard for me to advise because although my son was exactly the same I was not also working.
I have no idea how you American mummy's cope returning to work so early. It must be torture.

My son has gone through lots of mommy only phases. I've always showered before putting him to bed in case he wakes and my husband can't calm him.

The was a big struggle for me with my first who also had colic and spent the first three months crying ALOT. I eventually came around with my second and decided to shower before baby went to bed - often shower with baby. I only expect to get 5-10 min of time in the shower. I still shower early in the evening before anyone goes to bed and am expecting my third. I love co-sleeping but if baby is nursing every hour something has to change - as they get older I really try to be less on demand. My husband stays up late so I'd let baby sleep in another room for a couple of hours and he'd bring baby to me when she woke up - just allowed me a little bit of space and maybe a solid hour of sleep by myself. Does baby like to be swaddled? That can really help keep baby asleep.
