Good response to haters
Ok, ladies- Need some good replies to my coworkers who have kids (kids ages 10 years+) who are CONVINCED I won't last with my plan to CD. They all mean well & love me, but they kindly talk to me like I don't know what I'm getting into (I guess I really don't, FTM) and that there's NO WAY I'll really CD. Even when I tell them it's totally modernized and money saving, nothing will change their tune. Good responses to squash the negative feedback?

... It's really not that hard. I don't know where people are getting this idea that they're impossibly difficult. I'm even doing flats and covers and they're so simple it's ridiculous. Lol my 2yr old folds diapers... No joke... That's how simple it is.

I tell them theyre kinda dumb. Theres so many modern 'conveniences' every ones forgotten how do so much-sewing, cooking from scratch, changing your own oil and tires, knowing how to be social(thanks 'social networking' sites and cell phones!). All of those 'conveniences' are robbing our pockets and robbing our intellect as a species because we've been conditioned to be lazy and have some one or something do it for us. Not only are they better for our wallets, theyre better on our babies bottoms. Cotton is SO much better than gel and dioxin wrapped plastic.

Thank you, ladies. You're all pretty smart. Some think it's "harder" or more work, and the coworker I faced today believes that I won't be able to stand it after I get some really messy diapers...which is a little insulting, really, because I've changed many niece/nephew diapers in the past to know what a gross diaper is like.

I get the same carp from my father in law. All I say is "Ya maybe it won't be for me but it won't hurt to try" truth is even if I don't love it I'm not willing to change my budget to allow for disposable. I'd much rather put diaper money towards a down payment on a house and just deal with some extra laundry.

And when people tell me that they wouldn't be able to "deal with poop" I tell them I think it's cute that they think you won't be dealing with messy poop with disposables.

Sorry to comment again but I keep thinking of more things lol
When they talk about the hassle of doing extra laundry I like to remind them that we have these modern devices called washing machines... you load the machine and press a button and the diapers come out clean... it's like magic lol

"Not your monkey, not your circus" lol When my family decides to finance said money and circus, then they can feel free to comment. Until then, nope lol don't let it get to you. I wanted to cd my oldest but I was young and listened to the nonsense, so I didn't. Now years later, I'm going to cd this one due in November.

Had my other kids 10+ years ago. Cloth was unheard of. Feel free to tell them you know people who used disposable and now cloth and love cloth now!

I don't have a response to haters. I'm happy to explain how modern cloth diapers work and how to take care of them if someone is questioning it, but luckily I've never had someone be straight up rude, I guess people in my life know not to say anything to me haha!
I suppose my best advice would be to tell them, "thanks for your concern, I'll figure it out for myself like all new moms do." I don't know why anyone would keep going on and on about your choices, just tell them to drop it.

LOTS of people cloth diaper... I'd consider it an insult if someone told me I wouldn't be able to do it! Are you saying I'm stupid? Lazy? I'm a FTM and am planning on cloth diapering so I may not know what I'm getting into either but I'm sure with some effort and trial and error it can't be that bad or no one would do it! Good luck to you!

I'm cloth diapering my first newborn, my 3rd kid. My older kids switched to cloth later on. The newborn breastmilk poop is very messy, it's seedy and yellow basically diarrhea. Cleaning it off cloth is messy so I can see why people think you will give up. Some people don't even spray or rinse off the breastmilk poop and just throw the dipes in the washer, personally I like to spray any poop off. The first 2+ months you have to change baby 12-14 times a day and almost everyone of those will be poopy. My 5 week old just finally got to pooping in only every other diaper. For me now I'm still rinsing out 7+diapers a day, plus my older babies diapers. It's a lot of work! I don't mind it at all because I've decided the benefits out weigh the drawbacks for our family. Anyway if you are a FTM mom people just assume you don't know and understand how much work a newborn is, plus the sleep deprivation, breastfeeding around the clock and then the extra work of cloth diapers just seems overwhelming to some. Try not to worry about the nay-sayers and do what makes sense for you and your family. Good luck!

I'd say it's easier then getting a small job to pay for disposables and easier then popping off to the supermarket every few days for wipes and nappies!! Plus, you don't store poo in your house hold bins like disposable people do, you flush it away. They have paper liners so you don't have to deal with poo! I've done both types and cloth are Far better. They look lovely on, where as I was embarrassed to see a disposable.
They don't have that horrid disposable chemical smell... Or the terrible chemicals for that matter and it's better for babies skin and well-being! The most you have to do is bung it into a machine and then hang it to dry... Wowser what a nightmare! They do washing loads too right ? the thought of it is much worse then the reality.
I actually enjoy a nappy change and picking out a nappy or wrap... The same was Not to be said for disposables!!
Show them the maths... That's a good one!
At the end of the day though... They don't have to change your babies bottom! What does it matter to them?! ? it's likely they are dealing with issues about them, nothing to do with you ? xxxx good luck with it all and enjoy. Don't listen to others you know in your gutt what is best for your child, in all aspects of parenting.

All my haters stopped when baby girl had cute diapers that matched her outfits and I ALWAYS ask disposable users "oh my it smells so bad how can you stand the smell of that disposable". They stopped after I was a cloth superstar on month two. You can do it momma!!!

I'm an ass, so I just give it right back lol my SIL can be a jerk about my diapers. She's changing her son into a new disposable and is telling him how she doesn't like putting poo and pee back on her babies. I changed my daughter and told her how I don't like wrapping plastic toxins onto her, and that we don't wear our garbage. It's a jerky response, but trust me she needed it haha

Love all the feedback, ladies!! Thank you! I definitely agree with you, disposable diapers are just garbage, and parents have to deal with poop no matter what. Comes with the job. And, at the end of the day, it is my & my husband's choice and our responsibility. I just wish people would be more open minded! Rock on, mamas!

I am a FTM and absolutely LOVE our cloth diapers! It is so simple. People are one sided when it comes to things they do not understand. I was told numerous times that we would get tired of it. My grandmom even questioned my CD decision and she used old fashioned CD's with my mom and aunt! I have no comeback, I just say "I was our decision and so far we love it".
deleted-user·
I always say "yeah we weren't sure about CD at first too but its really not as overwhelming as we thought. I keep a record of how often i wash and our water/electric bill hasn't gone up".

People are so close minded now. The two people who told me I wouldn't want to stick with it, (not the only two but I just ignore the nay-sayers) were my grandmother and my MIL. Both of them dealt with the old style cloth diapers, and I told them things had changed drastically since then, but they didnt believe me. Then I SHOWED them one of the diapers and the opinion changed. Can't tell for sure if they believe I'll stick with it, but they are a LOT less vocal about it now.
