surrogacy and ivf
Sorry this may b a little long....Ok so im currently 9mo pregnant but im asking this primarily for my sister...shes asked me and me and dh feel extremely uncomfortable and dismissed the idea quick. But what steps do you have to take to get involved with a surrogate or start the ivf procedure. Shes been married for over a year now and her and her dh have been ttc for a while even before marriage but havent been successful. She keeps asking me how i keep getting pregnant because since me and my dh have been serious dating since 2011(married in 2014) ive been pregnant 4 times (i had a angel baby in 2014) . She keeps thinking its her age but shes only 33. Like i feel so bad for her.... any advice at all abt finding a surogate or starting the ivf process and costs with that will be very helpful! TiA

A year ttc really isn’t abnormal by any stretch for her age group in particular, it took us about 14 mo to get pregnant 2nd time and i was only 30.
Sorry no advice on ivf or surrogacy, but I would honestly tell her to keep trying and maybe speak to a fertility specialist before going down this road.
There are also pills she can be prescribed to boost her chances etc (clomid???) which she could try first and foremost.

Her absolute best bet is to see an RE. Surrogacy is incredibly expensive. You can pay anywhere from 40k-150k (embryo creation/storage, IVF, lawyer fees, medical bills, surro comp, etc). If she were able to just do IUI or IVF on herself it would still be costly but MUCH less expensive. Surrogacy should really just be the last resort when all other options have been attempted.

Yeah she needs to see a reproductive endocrinologists. Surrogacy is a last option kind of thing. There’s loooooots of things she can try before then.

Agree with the other ladies but my first stop would be the OB there's test they can run. There's definitely things that need to be ruled out before my jumping the gun to IVF or surrogacy. Also of the OB says she is fine her husband needs a semen analysis. I'd encourage her to make an appointment and start the process.

Yeah agreeing with the others. I would tell her to start testing on them first to make sure they can’t have kids, or maybe it’s something that can be helped.

Ok thanks alot guys!

Surrogacy and ivf are crazy expensive so I would exhaust other measures first

Once she hits >12 months TTC:
Her and her DH will need to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist for testing. Until a diagnosis is made, they can't know which treatment will be needed. Surrogacy is usually a last resort. If I were you, I'd recommend she exhaust all options with an RE first. I assume she'd rather experience carrying a child if possible...
If she's still less than 12 months, tell her it is still within the realm of "normal" and she should just keep trying. Has she tried tracking ovulation? Basal body temp is the best way.

She just tracks her period and theyve been married for 2 years this coming August so theyve been trying since before getting married. Shes thinking she can just ask someone to carry a child for her and thats all it takes. I knew it was more to it than that but i didnt know all kinds of scientists and laywers had to get involved... she even mentioned adoption. But i think going to see a RE is the first step like everyone said

She obviously tracks her ovulation and she eats healthy and what not right? There are agencies she would need to contact. I would say google is her best friend when it comes
To finding an agency.

Definitely needs to get checked before deciding anything. I tracked my ovulation etc and after testing found out I had a serious fibroid preventing implantation. There's no way to know what problems they have (if any) without thorough testing. I did ivf and I can tell you that it is not an easy option.

Adoption is very expensive. It makes no sense to jump right to that option. If she's been TTC >12 months, she can just research REs by her and call and book a consultation. It is expensive also, but hopefully a cheaper and faster option than adoption or surrogacy.
