Being respectful of DH

Ok so i was raised to always honor love and respect the man of ur life whether thats ur SO or DH. So me and hubbs are completely different when it comes to certain things. He thinks i should just give in and give my dd her binky at night but i say no becasue weve gon all day without it and she does good. But when he comes home from work its like she knows that she'll get her way and get it. Its annoying af like i work so hard to erase the binky from her life and he comes in and it to her when its time for bed. Shes extremely smart and can talk in complete sentences. Even her pediatrician says to stop or she'll need braces but hes in denail as he says shes fine and her teeth are perfect. ?? like come on!!! I guess in a way i feel like im overreacting cuz its just at naps and bedtime but then i feel like i say one thing and the kids respect me and what im saying but then he overrides what i say and theyll automatically listen to me. What do u guys think? Sorry this is so long!

Just because you don’t let your kid have the binky doesn’t mean you don’t love, honor, and respect your husband. If the doctor said to cut it out then don’t let her have it. Throw them away while he’s gone (easier said than done we’re are trying to take the binky away now too). Also, I wouldn’t want my daughter growing up thinking she had to do what her husband says. I love and respect my man but his @ss isn’t always right and I’ll let him know that.

Respect within a relationship goes both ways. Your dh is not respecting your wishes by giving her her binky when it suits him. If your children are listening to you through the day about cans/cants and daddy comes home and the "rules" change then hes also teaching them not to Respect you. I agree with the other ladies, throw them out and be done with it all together. If shes speaking full sentences, shes definitely past the age that they are necessary.

I also have a 1 yo ds who has them and needs them to sleep she will steal his mostly when dad is around. Which really ticks me tf off but i honestly think its psychological. Like all in her mind. Because last night she had it for all of 5 minutes and was sleep and i took it and she didnt want it at all thru the night. Like what do i do?!? Ive tried patting her back and rubbing her tummy or just rubbing her hair to soothe her while she tries to go to sleep.

But yeah i know that just because me and my husband disagrees about the binky that doesn't mean that I don't love honor respect him it's just this disagreement AKA this argument just keeps coming up between us and I don't like it.... he's wrong and I feel like he knows that he's wrong but he doesn't want to admit it.

If you have an upcoming appointment for your daughter I would bring him with and have the doctor explain why it’s bad.

In the meantime I would trash them all or hide them. And then sit down and talk to him, tell him that you guys need to be on the same page. And if you need, go on the internet and print out how much braces are cus I’m sure that sticker price will shock him lol.

I went through something similar with my DH. It wasn’t a long argument and in the end he understood we were doing what’s best for our son.

He needs to honor, love and respect you as well. Him overriding you in front of the kids sends the message that your voice isn’t really important. I agree with PP that he should go to the next doc’s appt and let the doctor explain why you have been doing what you are doing.

Have you had a conversation with him about this?

Disagreeing isn't being disrespectful, however you guys need to not disagree in front of the kids. They need to think you're a united front or they'll learn really fast they can play you against each other. If he can't get to the doctor just Google & show him why you need to take it away. Since she knows he's the sucker maybe he can tell her that if she goes all week without it he'll take her on a big girl date for ice cream or to pick a toy or whatever.

Have you talked to your DH when the kids aren’t around? When you’re not faced with an immediate decision like the child asking for the binky?

Is your DH an unreasonable person? I bet you could talk to him at the right time just the two of you and let him know the health concern brought up by the doctor AND by dentists.... then tell him how much ortho costs ??

I agree with @kkdb. Make sure you are united front of those children. We tried that play one parent against the other once and we ended up looking bad because they always backed each other.

But I would get him into a doctors appointment with you so the doctor can tell him first hand. I think it maybe different that just you saying it. Also respect, love and honor is a 2 way street. He needs to show you love, honor and respect especially in front of the kids.
