re post: binky probs
So i have a 2 year old dd and she STILL wants the bink (ninny, dummy, pacifier, bobo... whatever u call it) to the point where she cries bloody murder if she doesnt have it. Its only when she sleeps and for her nap time or when shes tired... Her 1 year old brother has it so she thinks she should have one too. My son is learning to talk and can do without it most of the time, but my 2 yo dd can legit have an entire convo with you... how do I get her to stop with the bink. I was gonna go cold turkey for the new year but somethin is tellin me thats a bad idea. What do you guys think?

I just threw them all out. It was a rough week or two but in the end it was worth it ?

My mom cut our sucking part off and said we swallowed it. It worked well for us lol.

Toss it. It will be miserable for a little, but I think it's the only way.
And of course, reward her when she does something without it than she normally does with it.

I had my dd stop when she was 2.5, and I plan to do the same with this lo.
I waited until she understood the concept of broken, and then I used cuticle scissors and cut the nipple completely off. I felt that was safer than just cutting the tip. I let her hold the handles and just kept saying, "sorry it's broken". She fussed for 2 days, but it wasn't as awful as I expected.
FX it's not too hard!

I took my son to the store and let him pick out whatever he wanted to replace the paci. He picked a stuffed animal and got to sleep with it that night.

just gotta do it cold turkey after a couple days she will forget about it

She turned 3 on the first, and Christmas Eve we took it away. We told her she had to give it to santa to give to the new babies. It worked. She's been without it a year this Christmas Eve. She doesn't even remember ever having one

My daughter used hers for sleeping until 3. Right after her birthday we started to take it away at naps then a few days later at bedtime. She was able to comprehend that she is becoming a big girl and no longer needs a baby soother. Maybe had 1 or 2 nights after we took it away completely where she asked for it but other than that, we had no problems.

This is all some great advice... but with another baby coming and my 1yo ds that has it do u all think itll still be an issue becasue she sees her siblings have one?

I say this and my DD still has hers...so it’s not something I’ve tried. But could you tell her she needs to pack away her pacifiers for the new baby who will need them and she doesn’t need them anymore because she’s a big girl and the big sister? ??♀️ Maybe?

My daughter was 2.5 and the binky fairy came....my daughter gathered up all the binkys in the house and put them out on the coffee table the next morning the binkys were gone and the fairy brought her a new toy. I told her that the fairy gives her binkys to baby’s who don’t have them since she was a big girl now. She asked for one once after that and never again.

And I had a 6 month old at the time so we just told her brother is still a baby but when he is a big boy the binky fairy will come take his binkys to other baby’s too.

Depends. Dd doesn't ever try to use ds but he barely has one because he's not a fan of them.

I let my daughter pick out a new toy, and told her when she was ready to give it up, she could have the toy. I took a few weeks of me reminding her that the toy was waiting for her and when she was ready she gave it up. No fussing no nothing.

My friend tied the dummy to a string hanging off the laundry door and put a stool next to it. She told her DS that he could suck the dummy as much as he wanted, as long as he sat on the stool. He was weaned in two days with no fuss, because it was so boring on the stool, lol.

How reliant on it is your one year old? If he doesn't care too much, I'd get rid of all pacifiers in one go.

@waffles hes reliant so its becoming really hard for me... im going to have a talk with her tomorrow and hopefully itll be no more binks for her by the end of next week
