Kelly your a life saver you've made me feel so much better! Hopefully this growth spurt if that what it is stops soon? but I will let her feed when she wants to which will be 24 hours a day hahaha xxx
By stopping the formula that alone will help your supply because she'll feed more to replace it, honestly she doesn't need it. I have been drinking fennel tea and that can help with supply to as well as helping baby with colic, it stopped daisy's the same day, I drink 3 cups a day because I quite like it its a bit like aniseed taste, but I'm sure your don't have supply issues anyway hun it's rare for a healthy mummy to not have enough milk xxx just relax and let your baby attack your boobies lol xx
I take fenugreek already, also sometimes get the tingly feeling not every time but Kelly what your saying makes sense now youve said it tbh I just worry too much an get myself worked up but will stop giving the formula and let her feed as and when she wants too thankyou so much girls xxx
It will not be stopping after a few minutes. At first because of your let down reflex the milk practically gushes out you may even see milk spilling out around her mouth, then it slows down and the milk becomes harder to suck out because it becomes the thicker fattier more creamy milk, some babies do get frustrated at this because they enjoy the faster flow, you can Google breast compression, it helps your body to simulate let down, but I have never tried it myself. Rightly or wrongly when Daisy is like this during growth spurts I let her swap to the other side for a while then back again, then she usually has a really good feed on one side after that, I think it's like when you yourself are really hungry, you want to literally scoff your food lol, but once you've got some food in your belly you happily graze til you're full
Has she been like this for long? Because growth spurts can last a week or so I believe. Also as she's become more efficient at feeding she might be full after only a few minutes, and the rest of the time she is fussing on your breast could be for comfort from teething, tiredness or anything! We aren't just milk to them we are a dummy and a comforter as well
Your doing a great job hun keep going xxx
But no milk is coming out when she's sucking and sucking?.. that's why I'm worried she's starving xx
She can go a week or more without a poo that's quite normal, it's really just the wet nappies that will tell you, because she will only get fluids from you so if she's peeing that means she's fine! Please don't worry hun just keep at it, you are enough for her she doesn't need formula xx
I had the same thing with my now 4 month old I was convinced I was drying up and posted on a BF support group on FB! The advice I was given was it's a phase and it'll pass and that was when she cut down the feeding time. I contacted my HV and she explained she's getting more efficient at feeding I also give her 1 x bottle of formula a day before bed and the rest is BF. I thought she didn't want me any more and was looking for the bottle but the phase soon past and now she doesn't feed as often or for as long but she's gaining weight and having plenty wet and dirty nappies. Hope this helps but if your concerned speak to your HV x
Just saw your other comment she has a dirty nappy daily now but she used to go upto 3 days x
I know it's so so hard I've give in a gave her formula only a couple of bottles ( silly I know) but when I squeeze my nipple no milk comes out well it does but not a lot and she just dosent seem to suck hard enough
She has lots of wet nappies and dirty but not every day dirty nappies thankyou so much xxx
Aww hun it will be growth spurts! Daisy is the same now and then, but it always settles down after couple days, the constant sucking at your nipple but not seeming to drink is her helping to tell your body to make more milk, it is a worry at the time I know but as long as she's having wet and dirty nappies that is your proof that she is ok! Xx
I have been going through the exact same thing with my son and also gave formula (never needed to with my daughter). His feeds are really quick (like 2-3 minutes each side) and when I express afterwards there's nothing there. BUT I had him weighed the other day and he's jumped up a centile!
It's all calmed down a bit now but if I do give formula, I pump milk at the same time just to satisfy my own curiosity. I tend to get 2-3 oz less than he drinks from the bottle but I'm guessing my milk just has a higher fat content or something.
