Ways to naturally induce
Ways to naturally induce
Hi ladies! My due date is this Saturday and I am having my first baby (a girl). I have no signs that labor is approaching - I still feel really good, the baby has not dropped, haven't lost my mucus plug, only mild BH, etc. Do any of you ladies have any tips to naturally get labor going? I really want to avoid having my membranes swept. My goal is to give birth in a birth center with my midwife, but I have to go to a hospital if I go past 42 weeks. I want to start doing some natural labor induction soon to get things moving in the next week. Thanks for the tips.

Sounds exactly like I was. I had no signs of labor approaching until it was actually there.
Walking, sex, evening primrose oil, acupuncture, acupressure, hypnobirthing soundtracks, deep relaxation/meditation are all things you can try. None are really proven, and baby will start to come when s/he is ready!

Walking! Lots of it!
Evening primrose oil (taken orally & vaginally) will help soften the cervix preparing it for labor.
Sex
Chiropractic treatments
Patience ;)

Both of my babies were "overdue." I've tried every trick in the book, and only one thing really worked for me.
Relax.
Seriously, try your best not to worry. Two weeks is a long time away, so go get a massage. Eat some chocolate ice cream, binge on your favorite guilty pleasure TV show. See a chiropractor and get your hips straightened out, you'll thank yourself for it later. Still go for walks to keep yourself healthy, but go slow and don't overdo it. You don't want to be tired from walking 5 miles when labor starts!
Thanks to evolution, we most likely won't go into labor if we're not comfortable. Look at animals - they go to a safe place to have their babies, not just out where predators can take advantage of their vulnerable state during labor. We're no different. Do your best to make sure your body and baby thinks it's safe to get the process going. Get comfy and get those "happy" hormone signals going!

Black and Blue Cohosh to Induce Labor
These two herbs are most effective at inducing labor in a post term pregnancy when used together. This process will not normally begin labor if the uterus is not ready. You should not try to induce labor until beyond 40 weeks gestation. This is a precaution to ensure your baby is ready to be born.
This is what I was given at 41 weeks with my son. I would take one pill of one and then 10 minutes later take the other one and I just had to keep doing that until he came almost 12 hours later.
It will not work unless your body is ready.

The average first time mother delivers at 41w3d, you still have time, be patient. Black and blue cohosh have some serious side effects, look into it before taking it. I agree with all the others though, evening primrose oil, sex, and walking. Enjoy this last week or so, knowing that your little one is gaining extra weight and getting some extra brain development in!
(Oh and it is both the orgasm and seminal fluid that helps produce contractions, so does nipple stimulation, so relax and enjoy your time with your husband before the baby comes )

My midwife wouldn't let me try cohosh tonics because my blood count was a little low. She said it can increase the risk of hemorrhage and so she won't recommend it for anyone with less than perfect blood counts because she's seen it too many times, and even then it's a 42+ week last ditch effort along with castor oil. Just something to keep in mind.

Just wondering if anyone knows if sex works as a way to naturally get labour starting x
