On Monday Sept 11th I went and saw my OB because I thought I was leaking fluid. She said I wasn't and checked to see if I was dilated any more (I was at 1 cm the week before). As she was checking she swept my membranes (which pissed me off to no end as I was only 37+4 at that point and DID NOT want any kind of induction techniques preformed before 39 weeks). Well anyways, that day for the rest of the day, I had horrible back pain and cramping that eventually lead to my bloody show early the next morning. The cramps had subsided but the back pain was horrid and my sciatic nerve was extremely pinched. By Thursday morning I couldn't even walk without holding onto something. I went back to the OB that day and she prescribed me a muscle relaxer to take that night. I really didn't want to take it but my pain was so severe and I hadn't slept in almost 3 nights. I took 1 pill and went to sleep. I woke around 12:30am and felt really wet down there. I figured that I had peed myself because I felt so relaxed and my bladder was semi full. I wiped it up and proceeded to the bathroom when I felt a small gush that trickled down my thigh. It wasn't anything dramatic, just a very small gush. Again, I figured I had peed myself. I finished in the bathroom and went back to sleep. Around 1:30am a contraction woke me but as I laid there for about 10-15 minutes nothing else happened. I fell back asleep and woke in the morning and didn't have any fluid or contractions. I told my fiancé and friend what had happened during the night and they said I should go to L&D to get checked. I really didn't want to go because I had already been in there 2 other times for false alarms and didn't want to get told to go home again. I walked around for about an hour and contractions started again but nothing that I couldn't handle, just felt like period cramps. I decided to go to the hospital around 10:30am. My fiancé was at work and my friend watched the kids. I prepared myself for the hours of being monitored and then being told to leave. A doctor came in and checked me and said yes, my water had broken. I was like, "What?!? It was barely a trickle!" He laughed and said, "Yep. It's not always dramatic like you see in the movies." They said they had to keep me since my water had broken. I was instantly nervous. I was 38+1 and had been hoping to keep baby girl in for at least another week. I was moved from triage to a delivery room and hooked up to the monitors. Oh, at this point I was at 3 cm and about 50% effaced. They blew 4 veins trying to get an IV in but on the 5th try finally got an IV in. They started fluids and antibiotics. My fiancé got to the hospital around 1pm and we just kind of waited to see what would happen. My contractions continued but weren't bad and weren't regular. As we waited I told my nurse that I was having contractions but they didn't see them appear on the monitor. She eventually came in and they did internal monitors (those hurt like a SOB!!). I was at 3-4cm. Baby didn't like me being on my back for the monitor placement and her heartbeat must have plummeted (I couldn't see what was going on) because I was suddenly pushed into my left side and oxygen placed over my face. All the L&D nurses came in and I was freaking out because I didn't know what was going on. Baby eventually leveled herself out and everyone left. The nurse started the lowest dose of oxytocin and man my contractions just started picking up in intensity. I couldn't breathe through them and was ready to cry. My nurse came in and asked if I wanted the epidural and I was like, "Yes!!" When the anesthesiologist came in and had me sit I almost jumped off the bed because the pain and pressure was so bad. The nurse told me to lie back down and she would check me (she figured I was maybe at like 5 cm at this point). She checked and I was at 8 cm!! The anesthesiologist placed my epidural and I immediately laid back down and told my nurse that I felt so much pressure and needed to push. She checked me and baby's head was right there. She yelled for the other nurse to call my OB (who luckily was just across the parking lot at the office). I swear as I waited for him I did the biggest Kegel of my life trying to keep the baby in ? The doctor got there about 10 minutes later and as soon as they had my legs up the baby was headed out. I gave one small push and Madison Olivia came out at 4:29pm on 9/15. She weighed 5 lbs 1 oz (which surprised all of us because I had GD and everyone was expecting a big baby). She was checked over and passed all her screenings. During our hospital stay she passed all her sugar tests, bilirubin tests, and all her newborn screening tests. She was perfect, just tiny. We've been home since Saturday night and she has been my calmest baby. She barely cries and would sleep through the night if I let her. I've felt great. I had zero tearing or swelling. It doesn't even feel like I just gave birth ? I am so relieved that everything went so well and that we have our little peanut home ?
