Apostrophes...WHY!!!!!
Somebody please explain to me WHY apostrophes in the middle of names is a thing. I really want to know what the intention is, because apparently it's becoming super trendy. People say it's some sort of "ghetto" thing, but I just don't get why you would want to have people butcher your child's name for the rest of their life by throwing random punctuation in there.

I'm not a fan either but they started becoming popular in the 80's from what I've read. Italian and black people seem to use them most.

Apostrophes have two purposes — to replace letters ("they're" from they( a)re, for instance) or to indicate possession. Namewise, in French, French-derived languages like Haitian and Creole, Italian, etc., they replace letters — (d'angelo in place of de angelo, the angel). This was most commonly done with last names (see above) or titles (d'Artangnan — of Artagnan). Families of these ethnic backgrounds and descendants of servants or slaves to these ethnic backgrounds also see these names frequently.
In some languages (for instance, Hawaiian, some African languages), the apostrophe indicates a glottal stop. In most instances, apostrophes entered names as a mistake, when printers did not know how to or were not able to use accents. Renée would be accidentally entered as Rene'e on old equipment, for instance. Any time you see an apostrophe at the end of a name (which is linguistically meaningless), it's basically a holdover from a printer's mistake.
Now more often than not people just throw them in names for no reason other than to appear creative.
