Jaundice level 18.1 What does this mean? I've gotta feed like crazy today and put him near a window…

I posted not too long ago my lil bubs had bilirubin level of 15.4 the morning of our discharge needless to say he didn't go home... make sure you keep him near that window and they should be giving the baby a machine called a billi blanket to lay on, and yes getting them to poop is how the bilirubin is excreted out of the body the more bowel movements the better! Thank you! His bilirubin was at an 18 so I have him by the window now but it's like blaring sunlight on him and I feel like it's not safe. He doesn't seem to mind and he's not sweating so I'm not sure.

He had just pooped about 20 minutes ago but no pee since early this afternoon

Aww I remember this worry with my 3rd bubs but she was hospitalised under lights for 24 hours at like 8 days old or soemthing

Morning sunlight is the best

Just a diaper on

Breastfeed them while sitting in early morning sun change breast burp etc all in the sun

Don't let baby sleep by the window or get midday sun even on a cloudy day the sun is too much for them after 11am

I have tinted windows and uv protection curtains so I sat with my baby next to the window all day as we don't get sunlight just day light and his jaundice is gone thanks to his careless nurse he was never tested but his eyes wer yellow so was his skin to touch. He was pooing and weeing got more frequent but I woke him for feeds and if he slept on breast I put him down to wake up and put him back on. His jaundice is gone now at 17 days old.

If baby is eating and waking just use morning sunlight ( you can also offer a bottle a few times a day as that helps flush out the bilirubin as breast milk takes a little longer ) I never did that but I was tempted this baby bevause he was sleepy and lazy on breast.

My 3rd bubs who was hospitalised she sneezed alot and seemed sick without a blocked nose and wasn't waking for feeds as regular and was obviously yellowish.

I didn't realise how yellowish until after the lights.

Jaundice is very common and easily solved just keep an eye on him for a few days and make sure he's waking for feeds ( my 3rd bubs whent 6 hours without a feed when days before she was feeding every 2 hours she just suddenly did a few 4 hour stretches at night and a 6 hour one in the day and I knew something isn't right ( the health visitor never showed up on the right day so we had been told she will come on day 10 and we were in hospital by then

Thank you for that queenybee. I'm not too worried right now but we do have to go back in the morning to get him retested. My milk just came in (or just started to come in) today/last night so I was able to pump 2 oz and gave that to him and now he's feeding again and I had him sleep next to the back door with the shade pulled shut so he still got sun but through a shield. His color looks much better I just hope he keeps feeding well!

Queenybee - he's good! Levels were down to 17.4 yesterday so they didn't want to do the light blanket. His eyes are still a little yellow but he's doing so much better!!

His eyes may be the last to turn back to white it can take time maybe a week or 2

If you press the tip of his nose and monitor the colour changes as you release your finger that way it's easier as they don't always want to open eyes properly this early and you can't always see the whites so good.

My kids all have a yellowish undertone as their dad is very dark but has a yellowish undertone in his skin strangely all my kids are pretty fair like me but have that yellow tone so it is a little hard for me to go on looking at them I check their noses with a press ?

Until I'm convinced it's gone or their eyes whiten
