life insurance and will
My husband and I are in the process of securing policies on both of us and setting up a will (since we're not really worth anything it's a short will. My parents get physical and legal custody of our son(obviously only if we go together). Our rings go to him. Everything else is to be sold. The dog goes with my son).

We are, but we need to change it. Our initial guardian that we had chosen we no longer want as guardian.

In the process. I actually have my appt for my lab work for my life insurance today. My husband already has a policy. My inlaws know that they get our kids but we need to finalize a will.

Yes, and you're right it is sad!
But honestly it makes me feel better to know that if my dh and I go together, our kids will be with the people we trust as opposed to who the courts would choose. Everything else I couldn't care less about (it all goes to the kids anyways) but knowing they'll be ok is priceless and a relief for me.

The second we bought out house we set up our wills and life insurance policies.
I pray that we both get to be here for our son (and any future children) untill they are grown up and no longer relying on me and DF, But we are prepared incase we aren't lucky enough for that to happen.
A school friend of mine got taken out of class one morning when we were 11 years old to be told that both his parents had died in a car crash. Sadly it could happen to anybody.
We are all quick to insure our homes, cars and phones. Yet a huge percentage of people don't insure the most important thing and that is their own life.

We have to buckle down and get this done. Dh will have good life insurance policies go into effect in a couple of months through his work, and we need to draw up our wills. I would be ok financially if something happened to dh, our fear is his ex trying to take his life insurance money for his first son, even though she makes excellent money, and has signed documents stating neither one can take a policy out on the other. I know her family wouldn't allow dh to collect if something happened to her, but rules don't apply to them in their universe.
The house stays with my mom, my son would most likely go to my SIL. Honestly, nobody in our families would raise him quite like I want, do that's a huge problem. My inheritance goes to ds, with a portion going to ss once he is of age. My jewelry goes to ds. Dh doesn't have much in the way of assets, it's mostly me.

Yes we are. I hate thinking about it but I rather everything be set up in the event something did happen because I cannot imagine my state of mind if I was disorganized and grieving. I will have to update it soon when my son is born so that he can be taken care of.

I have to update my will since I'll have to include my daughter, but I have a pretty basic, short one. It is definitely tough to think about, but I try to think of my family during that time. I don't want anyone scrambling to get everything in order after I'm gone. I'd rather my friends and family celebrate my life (maybe with a drink or five) and it does make me comfortable knowing that what I want to happen to my daughter, pets, belongings will get handled as I see best.

For anyone who thinks waiting is ok, my dad refused to do anything, even after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. I ended up having to get power of attorney while he was in hospice and drawing everything up myself to protect my mom's interests. I was already stressed because I made the push for hospice, but then I couldn't spend as much time with him because they wouldn't handle this stuff ahead of time. No paperwork in order, nothing. I never want to do that to my kids. It devastated me and was a level of stress I didn't know existed.

We have life insurance policies and my sister will be taking the boys.

I have life insurance through my work and my OH has a policy that his dad started for him when he was a kid but we don't have a will yet. I honestly don't know who would be able to take my daughter. I would want my dad and my step mom to take her because they are the people I trust the most in the world (besides my OH), but they're not exactly young and I worry about that. My "back up" would either be my cousin, she has a daughter a month older than mine and she has the same parenting style as me and is a wonderful, loving mother. Or my older brother, he doesn't have any children but him and his wife are terrific and they are well off enough to provide a good life for my daughter and I trust them to always put her needs first.

We have life insurance but no will, yet. We haven't settled on caretakers as of now, although we've been talking and praying about it since I was pregnant.
Just a word of advice,
For those of you who have job-related life insurance, find out if your policy will follow you if you are let go. I was told one thing by my HR, and it was a whole new story when I left my previous employer. My secondary (but larger) policy is now totally lost, after 7 years of paying in ?
