Live near dept of housing?
We are looking at buying a house & found out yesterday that the block of units next door are dept of housing. I know there are good & bad renters in public housing & private housing alike, but not sure if the chances of bad tenants are higher in DoH. Just wondering if anyone lives / has lived near dept of housing units & what your experience has been?
Most people probably only realise its a doh house when the tennants are bad. Im sure there are many of us who live near one and wouldnt even know.
Could you door knock the other neighbours, explain that you are interested in buying in the area and wanted some feedback on the area?
I live in doh and my whole street is doh. It used to be a really bad area a few years ago but since new people have moved in its not a bad area. Ive been here just over 4 months and the only complaint i have is next doors kids are noisy all night and parents don't care. Ive had to ask the children to keep quiet at night cause my lo is trying to sleep and they're screaming their heads off outside right near his window. There has been like 2 parties and one argument in the time ive been here. Just depends on the town, area and people. Just cause we live in doh doesn't make us all feral bad people.
We have one on our street and my parents are next door to a lovely family in one also. We built 2.5 yr ago in perth and we're told it is now policy to have a percentage dep housing in every land release to prevent whole streets and the problems of that. Don't know how true this is you might have to look in to it.
DON'T DO IT!!!!! We bought between 2 dept of housing houses without knowing and it's been a nightmare!! We've been here nearly 10 years (renovating) and we can't wait to get the hell out of here!!!
We've had shocking neighbours (one side had been the same ones the whole time, the other has changed hands 3 times (and remember they can swap amongst themselves ?)).
The police are always here, it's a freaking nightmare. Don't do it to yourself!! For your own sanity, just don't!! ?
I have lived nearish (years ago now) and had bad and good neighbours. I've had terrible neighbours nowhere near doh too I think it's luck of the draw.
I think the main thing is even if you have great neighbours it will adversely affect the value of your property. So if you were thinking about it I'd want a very good price on the house.
We have doh across the rd and worst tenants ever!! Police are always there, randoms coming at all hours, gardens turned to crap and loud music all the time. We are selling our house soon and it makes me wonder how many potential buyers we will lose because of how disgraceful the property is (stands out as all other houses are well kept). I am not saying all doh places are like this as I am sure there are plenty of good families but I wouldn't knowingly buy a house so close again. In saying that our new house that we are building has some doh apartments down the rd but not too close to us.
ALWAYS ask before building or buying. We have a beautiful estate down the road from us that is randomly plotted with DOH you can tell most of them because they have the full on junk yard out the front and these are brand new houses by the way but they aren't bad because you never hear of anything happening there and no violence Etc. In my estate it's quite hilly and you need to build retaining walls which DOH won't do so no housing in our estate...so that is something to keep in mind.
