i also fast for 13.5 hours a day, last ramadhan while breastfeeding. my daughter is about 9 months then. she already started solid food then. i'm not sure about a dip in supply cause dd seems content. i'm not sure how long you've to fast but never miss suhur. eat dates for suhur and lots of fruits that gives energy like banana. i made a fruit smoothie instead though. after breaking fast, drink lots of water throughout the night. keep on encouraging your son to eat. my dd takes a straw bottle, have you tried that? she also didn't like milk at first, but i kept on insisting and later she started to drink more and more.

Samoura your here ?! I haven't see you around in like a year lol , but I fast for for 2 of three pregnancies and 6 ramadans while breastfeeding but I was well established . (Yes I've been pregnant and or breastfeeding since 2008! This year I'm not too sure if it will mess with my supply because I'm going to give birth April 16 inshallah and it's not very much time to establish my supply and I don't want to make it up later so we'll see.

Nt that I noticed. My son was stil satisfied after nursing so I'm assumin it was ok.

I think it depends on how long the fasts are and how dependant ur lo is on ur breastmilk, like a newborn for example I wouldn't coz the long days of fasting are more than likely to effect supply X

Did it harm your supply at all?

@samoura I managed to fast last year and nurse my son was 9months then. I didn't keep them all but tried my best. Think I missed about 10.

You can always try and see how it goes. It can be tiring, my son was stil nursing ever few hours like urs wen I was fasting and it does defo run ur energy down faster I think. May Allah swt makin it easy for u X

My son is almost 13 months now and im still breastfeeding almost every 2 hours or less. Have any of you successfully fasted the month of ramadan without your supply drying out? It'll be here before we know it and im already worried. My son prefers breastfeeding and doesnt care for food much. And absolutely hates cows milk and the sippy cup. He hates bottles. He wants nothing but me.

@umm like pp said if u can get past the first 4-6weeks u will defo reach ur 6month goal of not longer inshaAllah. The first weeks are really really hard, I won't lie. A lot of ladies give up and switch to formula, not realising if u push through u get past the difficulty.

This pregnancy was totally different to start with than my first, I'm a lot bigger than I was with my son at this stage. I think I'm having a girl, but last time i thought girl too lol! I'll let u guys know when I find out ??.

well I'm 18weeks now @smiley by the time I have my scan I'll b approaching 20. Time is definitely

Flying by alhamdullilah. X

@umtariq i started with small goals too. if you can get past the hurdles for the first few weeks of breastfeeding, you'll definitely able to reach that 6 months goal ?? my eldest sis is a doctor and a bf advocate, so my family is very well informed on bf matters. alhamdulillah, their support helps a lot. my siblings and i were also bf for about 2 months only when we were a baby cause my mom was a working mom. we were only bf during her maternity leave. they don't have breast pumps and all that back in those days.

I don't know anything about the full Islamic ruling on bf, but I do know that it's my goal to bf my baby for at least 6 months inshaAllah. I'd be so happy if I can go past that! I started with a small goal, so I don't get disappointed if I can't do it! We couldn't latch on to my Mum, so she couldn't go anymore then 2 months with some of us. Good on you for lasting this long in bf your daughter!?

@smm Allahuma barek, thats sooo exciting!?Time really does fly! I'm 14 weeks and have my gender scan in 1 month inshaAllah! Any feelings on what you might be having? I'm clueless lol! I thought boy first, then girl and now I'm unsure.

based on my understanding from the explanation in the link, i thought the same too. only when baby's only nourishment is milk but i wasn't sure. just wanna know your thoughts. i'm sure there are differences of opinions in this matter as well. so wanna hear those too.

thanks for your advice sisters. she wakes up a few times at night and my back is killing me lately. i always wake up with back pain, tired and lack of energy ? i'm just not sure which approach i should be taking in weaning her off. i'm doing it slowly for now, so it might take a while for her to completely wean off.

smm, you're 20 weeks already? ? time flies so fast!

From my understanding it's Fardh when the milk is the only source of nourishment. If u decide to wean before 2years it has to be agreed with ur husband.

My son stopped night feeding around 14months, due to pregnancy my supply dried up fairly quickly and he wasn't getting much, he cut down himself to morning and bedtime feeds, and he hasn't asked for milk for the last 6days. My intention was to continue til 2, but pregnancy changed that.

I miss the closeness when I was bf him, but I've let him take lead and do things his way, and I think that's the best way.

We cut down night time feeds first, and he got rocked to sleep, tbh he wasn't bothered as I was stil there to comfort him in other ways. He went from waking 4times for milk to 1/2now for a cuddle.

Just follow ur daughters lead, if u can settle her bk to sleep with a cuddle or rocking her then go for it, if she isnt ready to night wean then continue, I know it's hard, but it isn't long til she's 2 and u will have to stop then, hopefully she might self wean by then to make the process easier X

I'm not sure as far as rights go but I stopped 18 and a half months. It became to the point where I hated it, all she wanted to do was nurse and she never slept good because she would always wake up wanting it. I cut out one nurse a day and helped her soothe herself. So I would feed her breakfast rather than nurse. Than take out lunch and would just rup her head and back and she would cry for a bit and eventually gave up. Than I took out before bed and did the same thing, rubbed her back and head and when she woke up in the night I had a cup of water and would just help her go back to sleep. Once she got used to it, she's been amazing. She stopped waking up in the middle of the night and became so much more independent.

i was just asking cause in the link it doesn't state if their right is for the whole 2 years, just it's their right as long as he needs which can also be assumed when an infant only needs milk for their nourishment

also, based on the verse below it seems 2 years is an option for the mother whether to complete the term of suckling or not. i wasn't sure that's why i was asking ??‍♀️ if it's their right for the two whole years, then okay ??

“The mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, (that is) for those (parents) who desire to complete the term of suckling”

[al-Baqarah 2:233]

i do want to cut feedings but i just want her to stop nursing to sleep first if that's possible. i need her to be able to sleep without me around. i was wondering if i don't cut the day feed and only the nursing to sleep, she'll get confused and will never sleep without nursing. i just wish she would take a lovey or any comfort object, it might make things easier for her ? it doesn't help that i'm such a softie

It does say that it is their right to be able to be breastfed for 2 years and you aren't suppose to stop until the 24th mth. It has nothing to do with solid food but I have no additional info but as far as weening it's going to be very difficult time for you both. But you just need to be patient and calm with your child but also consistent if your cutting out breastfeeds I suggest cutting out all day time feedings before attempting the night . I breastfed a total of 6 1/2 years with three children and from experience. There will be a week or so of constant crying at night just keep holding and rocking them it might be a couple hours until they sleep but after the third or fourth day it will get better but if you give after they will know they just need to cry to get breast. Also what will help is getting your supply to dry up , mint tea, and decongestant like that in tylanol cold and sinus help with that . You may experience some discomfort but do not pump only hand express just enough to make that pressure stop .
