Helmet for head? So baby had his 6th month appointment today and everything went well other than…

Omg yes! We are getting our LOs helmet tomorrow! He was just diagnosed with positional Plagiocephaly. He's had torticolis from birth, he's been in Physical therapy since he's 6 weeks old, and his neck rotation has almost completely corrected he's still very flat. Actually severe. They said anything over an 11 is severe well Dillon is a 22! He's 6.5 months old and say the helmet will really work. I'm so upset over it but we thank god everyday he's healthy and just a little flat head no big deal lol I'm here for you mama if you need me

Our baby’s head is super flat in the back. I did a lot of research and asked people that I knew had babies who wore helmets. My SO and I were decided that we needed a referral to a helmet place. I called the doctor (who had told us at her 4 month appt it would be fine), and she said that they don’t write scripts for them... we had to see a neurosurgeon! What?!

So, I took our baby to a neurosurgeon. He examined her and then took 20 minutes explaining to me why the 3 neurosurgeons at Hershey Medical Center never recommend helmets unless babies have neurological problems that would cause them not develop normally or if their face is really asymmetrical. He told me 100 reasons why it will be fine and why we don’t need a helmet. He said he’d write us a script if we wanted, but he doesn’t recommend it. So... we’re not doing it. She’s now 6 months 2 weeks and we are not getting one. It’s a personal decision for sure, but I would recommend getting a second opinion from a specialist (not the helmet people... they are selling a product). BTW, the neurosurgeon did say she has torticollis and gave us a script for physical therapy.

My first had a flat spot on one side of his head. I can’t remember how long it took to correct itself but it’s been gone for a long while. He’s 4 years old now.

My son had a flat spot it was so obvious i told his doctor at the time when he was about 4 months and she told me not worry that once he started to sit and not laying as much it would correct it self and it did.

My husband's cousin's daughter had a helmet. She was supposed to wear it almost constantly. It didn't take too long for her head to reshape. She's three now, and we hardly remember the helmet time.
