Your child's first Dr appt?
When do you schedule it? Like, when you're in the hospital after she's born? Before?
My son was born with low blood sugar, they wanted to make sure he didn't lose too much weight (5lbs 6oz) and they wanted to check his jaundice levels as well. We were discharged on a Sunday, they made us an appointment with the paediatrician at the hospital for a Tuesday, and he had us call our family doctor to schedule a follow up/weight check for that Friday.
Normally here if you already have a pediatrician lined up they come up to the hospital and do all the checks and schedule you for an appointment.
Since I have to deliver an hour+ away though I'm using whichever pediatrician is on call, and then will set up to see my actually doctor when we get released.
Depends! My nurses suggested that my son saw his pediatrician the day after leaving the hospital, because his jaundice was increasing when we checked out. So I made an appointment while in the hospital. If he didn't have to see his pedi until he was one week old, then I would have scheduled it when we got home.
The pediatrician at the hospital scheduled the appointment prior to releasing for first thing Monday morning. The office was packed with sick kids. We waited an hour before I left and found another pediatrician. I would not recommend scheduling first thing on a Monday or after a holiday.
