What made you want to do a home birth?
For me, it was the fact that my mom gave birth to me at home and it was such a magical day for her. She got to choose everything - who was there, whether to sit or stand or hop up on the birthing stool. After I was born I got to nurse and bond right away. It just seems like a much better experience to me.

Stories like your friend's experience made me decide on a home birth. If I knew I would be able to labor and birth completely undisturbed, I might choose a hospital instead.
Everything about our birthing practices and beliefs in the US goes against natural, physiological birth. At best, you might have a rough doctor or be denied food. At worst, you could be cut, drugged, and bullied into surgery that you didn't want.
Just watching birth videos of a woman on her back make me cringe. I have had two home births now, and I couldn't imagine being pushed around or poked and prodded throughout labor and birth.

I had 4 hospital births. The last one was bad. The dr. Broke my water without asking or telling me. He also inserted the internal monitor without asking or telling me. Then he ordered pitocin which I denied. They did it anyway! I was already dilated to 8, and having regular contractions! My last 2 have come at home!
