Vitamin K shot Anyone not get the Vitamin K shot and still got their son a circumcision?

Are you doing the oral drops? Vitamin K is pretty important in newborns

I would definitely do the vitamin k drops, but that's me.

It depends on the doctor doing it some won't circumcise if they don't have the vitamin k shot...you would have to ask them. Its very important and even though your breast milk has some vitamin k in it, it doesn't have all that the newborn needs..

I don't remember my son needing one but then again he is almost 13 I'm sure things have changed

Most physicians will not circumcise (as it is in elective procedure) unless the Vit K is given and data suggest oral Vit K is less effective.

Even if you plan on breastfeeding, it's actually been studied that breastfed babies get less vitamin k than a formula baby.

We don't do vitamin K, but don't circumcise either. I tend to think that the body knows what a baby needs ands babies have not been given it for eons and been fine. BUT, historically, circumcision was not done before the baby was 8 days old and had enough Vitamin K in their system to clot properly. Since most circumcision is now done sooner than that it is a bigger deal. If you choose to do the drops, I would also look into foods that will put more of it in your milk as well.
