I didn't eat for about 30 hours with my first c section. I was so angry the whole time lol

They tell you not to eat for a reason before a medical procedure. Follow their directions. Simple.

By law doctors are required to go by manual. Science is always changing and the manual isn't always right. The hospital is also a money gouger. Anyhow just curious, this is not a question to make any women feel bad or feel guilty.

They tell you not to eat because you could have a reaction to the anesthesia. Some women also vomit during active labor. They don't want you to aspirtate. I had a natural delivery with my first that was 27 hours long. I didn't eat from 4 a.m. on a Thursday until noon on Friday. I still vomited right before I had to push. You might be hangry but you will be alive.

I understand. I feel as though i'm more prone to throwing up on an empty stomach then one that has food. On top with drugs..yeah it's going down! I certainly know the risks and i'm not willing to risk it. Although I asked about the honey stick, and my doctor hesitated before saying no. Policy I have no doubt. Eating one now, should digest it in time to though.. 6 more hours ?

I thought you could have broth, jello and things like that.

I've been at plenty c-sections where the meds have made mama puke. I've also been there when s*** has hit the and and mamas airway needs to be protected. So it's not just a 'they are going by the manual'. There is actual science behind it. Of course- I hope all goes well for you and baby. Just giving a different perspective.
