For my week ultrasound they didn't do 3D/4D for either of my babies. They won't for this one either. It's not custom and they usually don't. With my son I was high risk, so they did do 3D around 30 weeks and after. My daughter the tech turned on the 3D and gave me one pic at 36 weeks. Most insurances won't cover the cost for some reason and doctors don't see the need for anatomy reasons. You could always do a private scan if they refuse and you just really have to see 3D

I’ve never had a 3D/4d ultrasound from dr. I only had one with my first because I paid to find out gender. They are only done if your high risk etc. I’m getting one this baby for gender because i can’t wait to find out till anatomy scan results from dr 3 days after scan.

With my daughter at 20 weeks I only had a 2d ultrasound. They gave me 2 pictures in 3d just to show me what it looked like but that was it. If I wanted 3d I had to wait until later on and had to pay extra. I did not do the 3d.

Can you tell me how much more the cost was for you guys, roughly obviously. Thank you again!

I’ve had NUMEROUS ultrasounds so far. I’m high risk. Not a single one has been 3d. Last pregnancy I had to pay for a private scan to get one. I get an ultrasound every 4 weeks and I highly doubt any will be 3d. Maybe towards the end, but I doubt it. I don’t think insurance covers the expense and they aren’t usually “necessary” so hard for doc to justify to your insurance.

My clinic doesn't do it unless they're looking for deformities. If we want it done we have to go get a private ultrasound.

You can also pay for one

I feel like a regular ultrasound is standard for an anatomy scan because it shows everything the way they need in order to check that baby is healthy. I’m not sure if a 4d one works the same way. I don’t even think it would be an option for me and I really just want to know that my baby is ok.

I agree with others that it seems more like a speciality thing you pay for privately.

Usually it is only 2D I recently had a 3D one done but I did a private scan out of my normal dr office.. this is my third pregnancy second child so far & I didn't even know it was an option!

I don't understand why it's such a big deal to switch over from 2d to 3d my doctor has done it at every ultrasound so far just for fun. I think it's just that office

My midwife does it every time just to try to get a picture for me! I wouldn’t think it was that difficult.
