I have done natural IVF - it didn't work for me (the egg was retrieved and they used ICSI to fertilize it, but there was no cell division) I would have had a 3 day transfer, but instead transfer was cancelled. Be aware that natural IVF has only a 20-25% success rate. I felt it was worth a shot though because my natural cycle only cost $2500 - some people pay that for iui. I hope it works for you! If you need IVF, it's definitely a much easier (less stressful emotionally, physically & financially) option than traditional IVF!

What's the difference between natural and traditional ivf? I might try another iui before making my decision. I had 1 failed iui and another one cancelled due to too many follicles. My doc wanted to convert it into an ivf but that wasn't in my plans at that time.

Natural IVF doesn't use any meds to stimulate your ovaries. It only uses a trigger shot to time egg retrieval and meds to support pregnancy after the embryo is transferred back. You only get the one (or sometimes, if you're lucky two) egg you ovulate naturally. Traditional IVF uses a bunch of meds & nearly constant monitoring to stimulate your ovaries to get as many eggs as safely possible. Usually about 8-20. With natural you have a lower chance of success because you are relying on everything to go perfectly from beginning to end with just that one egg. With traditional you have a bunch of chances, they transfer the best looking embryo(s) and if implantation doesn't happen you typically have frozen embryos to try again.

Traditional ivf would be best then but the cost isn't ?. Have you have success with ivf? What cd do they do the retrieval and transfer?

It will depend on your cycle and clinic. My doctor used my typical ovulation day (which I told him from OPKs) and loosely timed the retrieval around that - I think we had to delay it one day because the follicle wasn't big enough but I am pretty sure we retrieved on cd 16 then we were supposed to transfer 3 days later but cancelled because the embryo didn't develop. I went on to do a mini-stim cycle, where we got 7 eggs, 6 mature, 4 fertilized. We put 2 back for a 3 day fresh transfer and ended up with a BFN. We used the remaining to 2 frozen and I had a chemical pregnancy. We are trying one more time with traditional IVF with genetic testing.

The whole process sounds scary having to inject yourself and retrieval but at the end it will be worth it. How many iui you had before you decided to move onto ivf?

I didn't have any IUI's my hubby's sperm count was too low for any doctors to think IUI would work...

I did natural ivf and have a beautiful son as a result. I wanted to try and get the most ´natural' way pregnant if I could and use less drugs. But we do whatever we need to right. Do not hesitate if you have questions and best of luck! ?
