mastitis???...
Oohh the wonderful world of breastfeeding... Have any other mamma's self treated mastitis before having to get antibiotics? Yesterday I had a fever and body chills, pain in one breast etc. But today it seems to be getting better but maybe because I'm taking Advil for the symptoms...trying to avoid going to the hospital ?

I’ve had it 3 times my last pregnancy- always needed antibiotics but I have used poke root tincture as prevention. I highly recommend it

I've had it, maybe not full fledged mastitis, but a plugged duct. It's awful. But I've never needed antibiotics, I just pump from that side a lot and massage the lump, and it clears up in a day or two. Hopefully you don't need any antibiotics and get better soon!

I’ve had mastitis and used fresh garlic chopped up and swallowed. Plus drinking loads of water, breast massage and manually expressing the milk. I had fever of 103 so I had to take Tylenol to get it down. But by day 3 I was feeling better. No antibiotics.

Yeah I'm on day two of a fever and I'm having a bit more success getting LO to latch from the one breast giving me problems even though it hurts I keep nursing her anyways

Oh yes. It was truly awful. Felt like I had the flu. I used cold cabbage leaves and warm compresses while I was feeding. Both helped a ton. Good luck mama! Hope you start to feel better soon. I know how brutal that can be. ☹️

I’ve had it every time and just getting over it now but my Midwife put me on antibiotics straight away this time, the other times I have managed to clear it reasonably quick by hand expressing and massaging it out under a hot shower and while babies feeding. This time I still have the lump but fevers have stopped and not feeling so horrible except that on day two I care down with a head cold so dealing with that too ?, hope you can clear it quick it is so horrible

Just be careful. My friend tried to self treat mastitis and ended up with sepsis and really sick in the hospital hooked up to iv antibiotics!

If it’s getting better it could just be a clogged duct that baby cleared when nursing. I called my dr yesterday about fever and chills. They said keep nursing a lot on that side overnight and if my fever broke there was no need to come in because it was a clogged duct. If it didn’t break then come in because it was probably mastitis.

Update: day 3 and fever broke over night to 97.9 normal ? and I feel better I don't have the pain in that breast and I keep her nursing consistently on the problem one and since I have an over supply if she refuses to nurse off that one when she needs to then I'll put that breast under running hot water and self express I think that is working ?

What are the cold cabbage leaves for?
My Lactation counselor told me if used incorrectly, they can harm your milk supply..

Sounds like maybe just a clogged duct. I’ve had both and with mastitis it was much more severe. Felt like I had the worst flu with 104 fever and definitely needed antibiotics.
